In short, great value for money. I am getting an average of 14.7 km to a litre of diesel in the city which increases to an impressive 19 kmpl on the highway provided I cruise between 80 and 90 kmph. I like the power steering and the very effective airconditioning. The car could do with better interiors though. Some of the plastic switches/buttons such as the air conditioning etc are of very poor quality. The suspension is optimised for Indian roads. Tata would do well to address the problem of rough running at low revs and the sluggish acceleration when the engine is running below 2000 RPM.

Dear Gp Capt Harish, I am weighing my options for a diesel car. I love the look of Marina but, just can't make up my mind for it. My father in law has had one of these for 4 years now. For the first 2, it ran beautifully, & the last 2, it's been painful. It's sluggish & slow.. while still maintains the feeling of power & control. How is your car going? would you recommend it over (say) Fusion and/or Innova (if space wasn't a consideration for me)? Thank, Nitin

hi all, I own a Marina which I bought exactly 2 years back. What a great car!It looks great, offers a lot of comfort and space,GREAT MILEAGE(minimum 15 kpl,and much more on longer drives),and absolutely NO problems - in heavy rains, the central locking unit in the driver side door had mal-functioned last year, it was changed promptly and for free;that was the only problem i ever faced !The service is really good ! A more smooth gear-shift would be welcome.Overall, a GREAT car! Lt Col Shyam Sarath

Hi Panky! It really is a small world, ain't it? Why are you thinking of mundane things like the Marina when you should be bringing across a Jaguar or a Bentley from the UK :)! Anyway, I did test drive the petrol version and I must say that the performance is MUCH better than that of the diesel verison. Hope that answers your question. Mail me at harish410@gmail.com

Sir, I got here by googling for 'check engine' light. The light comes on in my Marina when I turn the ignition key to 'IGN' i.e. just before I self crank. The thing is it stays on until such time I turn the Engine ON, and then goes off. Is this how it happens in your car? I hadn't noticed this before as I was not driving this till last week.

Hi Harshad. I've logged a total of 21000 km in 21 months. A large portion of that kilometerage was on long distance trips since I don't use my car to commute to and from work. The car performs as well as it did when brand new. I did have a problem with the ECU on a recent trip to Munnar where the CHECK ENGINE light came on and wouldn't go off. TATA told me not to worry and run the car as usual but to get it checked up ASAP. turned out to be a prob with the ECU. no other major problems.
