Mercedes-Benz C-Class 200 K Elegance AT road test : Starry, starry flight

"Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz?"

Introduction

Janis Joplin sang about a Mercedes-Benz two days before she died. It wasn’t her last wish, but she did pass over the Porsches for the Merc. For many in India, the three-pointed star is as alluring as the real ones in the night sky. It shows to all that you’ve arrived; you’ve achieved it all – but the previous-generation C-Class (the W203) got a little long in the tooth, especially when the upstart 3-series arrived. Enter the new C-Class, in a natty new suit. Does it have what it takes? We’ll gladly take the pains of spending some time in and around the C200 Kompressor and find out for you.

The COMAND's standard, yes. I don't think there is a classic variant any more - if there is, not too many people buy them!

Despite of several warnings by moderators, Rahul did not refrain from making comments in a tone that intended humiliation rather than curiosity on his end or correction on CarWale's end. When we figured out that he is not the right fit to the forum, we had to ban him. As he was banned, he wrote me an email abusing me which is again a testimony of the fact that he has no control over his behaviour and language.

The ban was imposed becuase of the language & behaviour and not for asking questions or raising doubts. Your criticism is welcome as long as it's constructive and your tone is as a helping hand.

Rahul's critism too has been helpful and you all will see better roadtest reports and photographs.

Thank you, Rahul. I hope you could understand the way we discuss things at CarWale forum and could get aligned with the overall goal, "helping others".

A request to a few other members as well (may not stand true for this thread/road-test in particular)... let us not sound / try-and-sound like an authority/judge.  If we happen to know more than others (in case), let our posts/contents speak.  Merely questioning & pointing out does not speak/mean anything.

Raju, We have asked Tata Motors for the petrol Vista on more than one occasion, but they simply do not have a press car available. CarWale's policy is to test cars provided from the manufacturers only, and not take test-drive cars from dealerships, so we'll wait until Tata gives us their car.

The A-Star review will be up when we get the car - we managed to snag a short drive, but circumstances didn't allow us to test it.

Sabareesh: thank you. :)
