Mahindra-Renault Logan 1.6 Petrol - Lo(gan) & Behold!
It was branded Dacia and Carlos Ghosn was the man behind the success of Logan – a car that was hailed as one of the cheapest cars to own and run and one which presented itself as an excellent VFM proposition. The business magnet who set the pace going was Anand Mahindra, who, after the overwhelming success of Scorpio, should or could have driven Mahindra into the passenger car market on its own. But Mr. Mahindra decided to partner with Renault to build a cost-effective family sedan and the result is here for all to see. Logan was designed to be cheap in order to sell well in almost all the countries it would be sold in, and it does. India, however, is a completely different story. Not only did Carlos Ghosn find it hard to price the Logan as the cheapest three-box car in the country, he was baffled to see the how matured the Indian market and how fierce the competition has become. Perhaps Mr. Ghosn could learn a thing or two from us Indians.
Coming a little late in the day this test is, but it was thought to be the perfect time for us to evaluate and test the Logan, primarily because it competed in ‘Debut of the Year’ category under the CarWale Awards umbrella.
