Two Car of the Year awards to Volvo Cars Thailand

New Delhi, April 15, 2008: At the Car of the Year ceremony held in conjunction with the Bangkok International Motor Show, Volvo Cars received two awards - in the "Best Advanced Technology" category for exceptional innovations in the field of safety (Volvo S80 3.2) and for "Best Luxury SUV" (Volvo XC90 D5).

Both the award-winning cars could be seen on the Volvo stand at the Bangkok Motor Show together with the Volvo C30 1.8 F E85 and Volvo ReCharge Concept. The stand was visited by Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry, Mr. Suwit Kunkitti.

"We were naturally very pleased that the Minister of Industry chose to visit our stand. It was the only stand he visited at the show - he really wanted to see the safety solutions in the Volvo S80 3.2, the C30 1.8F E85 Flexifuel and the ReCharge concept," says Paul Stokes, President of Volvo Car Thailand, who received the awards at the Car of the Year ceremony together with marketing director Khun Chantana Vatanaromya.

During ten public days some 1.6 million people visited Bangkok International Motor Show, which ended 6 April. Volvo Cars sold 60 cars during the show. Totally Volvo Car Thailand received some 1 400 prospects. 700 test drives were performed.

Volvo Car's sales in Thailand during 2007 was 619 cars. That was an increase of 36 per cent compared with the year before. Volvo Cars has been present as a brand in Thailand since 1962, VCT now employs some 30 people. The local assembly (CKD) factory, Thai Swedish Assemblies (TSA), is employing some 300 people. Volvo is represented in retailing by 8 authorised dealers operating 12 outlets, nationwide.
