Hyundai i10 wins all the’ Car of the Year 2008’ awards

new Hyundai i10 has bagged the title of the ‘Indian Car of the Year 2008’
– (ICOTY) at a glittering award function held in Mumbai.
Over the last two years, the awards have
proved to be the benchmarks for auto excellence in India and are widely
recognized as the most trusted word on automobiles
for consumers, manufacturers and auto experts alike. Hyundai i10 was the
unanimous choice of experts as well as customers alike.
The most coveted of the Auto Awards, the ICOTY award has been instituted by all the prominent automotive magazines in the country like Autocar India, Auto India, Business Standard Motoring, Car India, Overdrive and Top Gear, and the jury comprises of the senior most motoring journalists in India. The purpose of the award is to recognise and choose the car which best symbolises quality, driveability and performance.
Expressing joy on receiving the award, H S Lheem, Managing Director, HMIL, said, “We are delighted to be the winner of the most prestigious award – the Indian car of the Year and the choice of the discerning automotive media has clearly established the i10 as a world class car which meets all the global standards of safety, design and performance. The i10 will add to the Hyundai brand in India and consolidate its position as a leader in the compact car segment”.
Factors such as fuel efficiency, ride, handling, safety, comfort, driver satisfaction and price were taken into consideration before the cars were ranked on a 25-point scale, where a maximum of 10 points was given to a car. The eligibility process also required that all competing cars were new models launched in the calendar year 2007. Cars that were adaptations of existing models with mere cosmetic changes or those with just engine and transmission swaps, for instance, were not eligible.The car with the maximum points simply emerges as the winner. And in this case, it was Hyundai i10. Further, the award provides an impetus to carmakers to introduce contemporary and safe models in India.
Hyundai’s i10 has already captured the entire gamut of the most prestigious of Indian automobile awards with its distinction and performance. It has received a total of 4 ‘Car of the Year’ awards from Business Standard Motoring, CNBC TV18 Autocar, NDTV Profit Car and Bike India and Overdrive magazine. The car also made a clean sweep of the ‘Viewers’ Choice’ award bagging the Aaj Tak Viewers’ Choice awards as well as the ‘Small car of the Year’ by NDTV Profit Car & Bike India.
Since it launch in India on October 31, 2007 the i10 has received an overwhelming response from not only the media but from car buyers across the globe as well. In the domestic market in India it has sold over 45,000 units while from its overseas market HMI has received orders for around 72,000 units in a short span of 3 months since its European debut at the Bologna Motor Show in December, 2007.

HMIL is investing to expand capacity in line with its positioning as HMC’s global export hub for compact cars. Apart from expansion of production capacity, HMIL plans to expand its dealer network, which will be increased from 230 to 300 this year.
The year 2007 has been a significant year for Hyundai Motor India. It achieved a significant milestone by rolling out the fastest 500,000th export car. Hyundai exports to over 90 countries globally; even as it plans to continue its thrust in existing export markets, it is gearing up to step up its foray into new markets. The year just ended also saw Hyundai Motor India attaining other milestones with the launch of the i10 and yet another path-breaking record in its young journey by rolling out the fastest 1,500,000th car.
Hyundai’s new model i10 which made its global debut here in India in October, 2007 made a clean sweep of all the ‘Car of the Year 2008’ awards from the leading automotive magazines and TV channels like BS Motoring, CNBC-TV18 AutoCar, NDTV Profit Car & Bike India and Overdrive magazine. The i10 is also the choice of the discerning automotive media of the country as they conferred the prestigious ‘Indian Car of the Year’ (ICOTY) award to the i10 as well. The i10 bagged these awards on the basis of excellence in build quality, handling, driver comfort, safety and ride quality. The Santro and the Accent also received the ‘TNS Voice of the Customer - 2008’ award for the Premium Compact Car (Santro) and the Entry Mid size Car (Accent).
Last year, the Hyundai Verna bagged some of the most prestigious awards starting with the title of "Car of the Year 2007" by India`s leading automotive publication – Overdrive, the “Best Mid-size Car of the Year” award by the NDTV Profit Car & Bike India Awards 2007, the “Best Value for Money Car” by the CNBC Autocar Auto awards and ‘Performance Car of the Year 2007’ from Business Standard Motoring.
