GM India sets all-time high sales record

New Delhi: General Motors India has registered a record growth of 51 percent in sales in March 2008 as compared to the corresponding period last year. It has sold 6, 836 units in March 2008 as against 4,542 units in March last year, making it the highest-ever monthly sales figure achieved by GM India since its inception. The March 2008 sales comprise of 1820 units of the Chevrolet Tavera, 1589 units of the Chevrolet Aveo, 710 units of the Chevrolet Optra, 2397 units of the Chevrolet Spark and 320 units of the Chevrolet Captiva.

GM India has witnessed a robust growth of 71 percent for the period of April 2007 -March 2008 over the corresponding period last year. It has sold 66, 543 units during the period between April 2007 -March 2008, as against 38, 857 units sold between April 2006 – March 2007. GM India also posted an impressive 57 percent year-to-date sales growth for the period of January – March 2008 over the corresponding period last year.

 “Achieving these levels of growth clearly reflects the customers’ confidence in the Chevrolet brand and the consistent growth in monthly sales is an indication of the success of all our carlines. With industry first offers such as ‘The Cashless Ownership Offer’, and numerous awards our carlines have won over the year, the brand and the product have exceeded the expectations of our customers in terms of performance, attractiveness and quality, not to mention service and value for money.” said Mr. P. Balendran, Vice President, GM India.

As part of the 5th anniversary celebration, GM India last month announced yet another industry first Chevrolet Promise – “The Cashless Ownership Offer” .The Cashless Ownership Offer is a unique zero ownership offer that will take care of labour cost, parts for all services, maintenance and running repairs for a period of 3 years or 45,000 kilometres, whichever occurs earlier. This offer has been received enthusiastically by customers and in response to the overwhelming customer response; GM India has extended “The Cashless Ownership Offer” till 21st April 2008.

It may be recalled that General Motors India made a clean sweep at the JD Power’s Automotive Initial Quality Study in India recently when three models of its flagship brand Chevrolet, were awarded top honours. Moreover, Chevrolet also won the JD Power Automotive Performance Ergonomics and Layout (APEAL) award in the premium luxury segment, an additional testament to General Motors India’s determined focus on crafting cars that win customer hearts.

GM India’s network expansion drive for service centres is going full steam and 117 locations across India have now been covered.  It has recently opened up service points at Bangalore (Karnataka), Warangal (Andhra Pradesh), Surat (Gujarat), Trivandrum and Kollam (Kerala) and Mumbai (Maharashtra). By the end of this year, it intends to have in place 125 sales points and 135 service outlets across the country to reach out better to its customers.

General Motors India is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Motors Corporation, with a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Halol, Gujarat. The company makes the Chevrolet Tavera, Chevrolet Optra, Chevrolet Aveo, Chevrolet Aveo U-VA, Chevrolet Optra SRV and Chevrolet Captiva for the Indian market.
