Full Review

A-star - stop at nothing is a cute hatchback from Maruti Suzuki for global markets. This compact A-star  features all the norms of contemporary hatchback. Raised bonnet, larger airdam, peeled back headlamps and elliptical glasshouse of the A-star does not excite you but it looks pleasing. But once again Maruti Suzuki has not given sufficient care to the rear part of the A-star. Passersby might miss the A-star as any other one. Overall styling is not outstanding but contemporary.

The dimensions of A-star are - 3500mm*1600mm*1490mm (length*breadth*height). The dimensions are more or less similar to its rival Hyundai i10. However i10 scores over the A-star wheelbase (2360mm) by 20mm.  But we have to look how these dimensions are efficiently utilized before concluding which one is superior. Anyway, the 4.5m turning radius of A-star will help you to tight corners and make swift manoeuvers.  The 170mm ground clearance of A-star makes it good enough to roll over potholes and bumps.

With the launch of A-star, Maruti Suzuki also debuts its superior KB series engine in India. The 3 cylinder, 12valve MPFI unit generates 67PS of peak power at 6200rpm and 90Nm of max torque at 3500rpm. Though these figures are nowhere near the i10 kappa, remember, we earlier reported you that this A-star returned 19.5Km for a litre of petrol.  The mill is mated with a 5speed manual transmission. A-star does not feature automatic transmission even as an optional one.

Overall, it is a product from Suzuki, so it should catch the market. With the current market, it really needs to attract. But it may not have an exciting sales before Jan09. Let us wait and watch. I will write more after a test drive.

@zunil a-star is miles ahead of i10 in terms of performance and handling..

I think this car is for middle class people who is looking for fuel economy. We have to compare the FE of A-star with Hyundai i10. Spark is nothing as it is the OLD MATIZ with new name comming from Korea.

A good car with a peppy engine and great fun to drive in city

I think A star is one of the best car with good built. i read others mentioning that seats are cramped but for a city drive car there is no necessary to look comfort, as maneuvering in traffic is the first priority. Moreover the design is quite fresh and looks cool when compared to the more than a year old Hyundai i10

I THINK A-STAR IS ONE OF THE BEST CAR IN ITS SEGMENT LOADED WITH LATEST KB-10 SERIES ENGINE , AS THE FUEL PRICES ARE INCRESING DAY BY DAY UNDER SUCH CIRCUMSTANCES A-STAR STOOD NUMBER ONE & AT PRESENT PERSONS WHO ARE USING THIS CAR FOR THE LAST 05 TO 06 MONTHS ARE SAYING THAT THEY ARE GETTING 24 TO 25 KMPL ON HIGHWAY. SO IT'S GREAT FROM THE POINT OF ENERGY SAVING.

hi,Its a gr8 car from every aspect. and about the boot space i agree but this is not happening every time that 5 people will sit i the car with thier bulky bags. so for 3-4 people have good enough space. and this is over the i 10 in milage, looks and interiors. bcs maruti launch it as sports version and it is fullfilling the requirements. and exterior are much batter than i 10. and it this sagement no one car is stand toward this car if you think to drive in hilli area and tuff roads.

A good technical review. Waiting for your review post A Star test drive.... Is it a good car as against Santro Xing and whether it is a good car to accomodate 3 adults on the rear seat, just like Swift ? Waiting for your reply

very nice & powerful car with a verygood mileage. no car of it's class can match due to it's technical qualities.

If the car is not selling enough, only because of pricing.. If they had priced 40k-50k less this would have been the hottest selling car. I wish they do a better job on pricing for their next car Splash.
