Given the budget and your requirements, Verna 1.4 CRDI is value for money as you get FE and the power too.
But if we go by the safety features, then it should be 'Ford Fiesta Style Petrol' as ABS, Airbags are standard in all the models, but you will have to trade off the FE of a diesel. So to sum it up, if you are more of a higway driver than a city dweller, Ford it is. Nothing can beat safety.

Give a racetrack or tarmac with no obstructions to negotiate and no bad patches on roads to handle, ask the 3 cars to race
verna diesel may come first due to its straightline accelration capabilities
But put the cars on real road situations, to see the difference
Linea and vento will move faster than Verna
The reaosn being the in gear acceleration of Linea is far superior than Verna in midrange . And most often you spend your time in that range and that is where Linea delievrs its performance. In addition, Verna may deliver good power. But due to its poor dynamics and suspension, if you are on a not so great road you do not use its full power and unconsciously slow down due to its limitations.
Hence due to its poor mid range accelration and dynamics, ultimately in reallife road conditions verna may not be a rocket when compared with Linea or Vento or even SX4. Actually Vento is even a shade better than Linea in mid range accleration.
In fact among the 3, Linea has best ride and handling combined with roadgrip & dynamics (even better than Vento) that you will use the full potential in Linea with utmost ease.

verna is still a rocket in d segment except of vento.....sx4 diesel n linea dont stant a chance in front of it specialyy sx4 with 1248 cc engine n low top speed...

Verna CRDI still a rocket with 110 bhp row power engine. Its a very good car drive yourself and and decide.
Verna lacks in 2 reasons
1. No air bags
2. Dynamics of the car for very high speed deiving
Both are dagerous . If you donot go for car race then go for varna very stable in speed likes of 150 km/hr. I think its sufficient speed for a safe driver. I found its riding comfortable enough for the price you pay for it.
Fiesta having 1.4 cc diesel with 67 bhp of power i donot think can match vernas 1.5 cc diesel with 110 bhp of powerfull engine. You will never feel a lack of power in a verna.
Other two option as victor mentioned in diesel Vento , fiat linea and Sx4 you can look for good car in this segment comparing all expet to verna

Verna was rocket until Linea, Vento, SX4 diesel etc came in. Now it is no longer.

Fiesta:
Superb driving pleasure. Quite frugal engine. However spare parts price are a bit on higher side and can become bothersome. Check the quality of ASS in your area.
Verna:
Car zooms like a rocket. Hyundai ASS is reputed. Excellent resale value.
Anyway both Ford and Hyundai are going to launch all new Fiesta and All new Verna. Better to wait.
