Following the success of the i10, Hyundai Motor India today launched its latest model – the i20, a premium compact car -- for its discerning Indian costumers. The premium i20 hatch is a significant addition to the new generation of Hyundai vehicles identified by the 'i' prefix
Designed to meet the high quality standards, the five-door i20 offers a large interior cabin and stylish exteriors. Featuring Hyundai's distinctive design motifs – a body coloured radiator grille flanked by piercing teardrop headlamps at the front and a striking rear light clusters – the i20's modern lines are further strengthened by neat detailing, including colour-co-ordinated bumpers, sills and wing mirror.

The i20's well-packaged interior boasts of generous levels of standard equipment. All the i20 models have AC/heating, tilt & telescopic steering, 60:40 split folding rear seats, dual tone beige interiors, 2 DIN CD + MP3 Music System, front & rear power windows, refrigerated glove box, a multi information display (which includes trip distance, engine running time, calendar, clock, temperature and audio display) and tachometer, as standard equipment. While the top-end model of the i20 comes with features like fully automatic A/C, leather wrapped steering wheel and TGS knob, steering mounted audio control (a first for this segment), foldable key with keyless entry function, alloy wheels, height-adjustable driver seat, electrically foldable and adjustable outside mirrors and the category first six airbags.

The Hyundai i20 is a five door hatchback car which made its debut at the 2008 Paris Motor Show in October 2008 and arrive on sale in late 2008 — to fit between the i10 and i30 and to replace the Getz.

A new 1.2-litre petrol engine will be available along with a revised version of the company's existing 1.4-litre unit and a 1.6 from the i30. A new 1.4-litre CRTD plus a 1.6-litre will be the diesel units offered at launch. All will produce 64.2mpg and 116g/km of CO2.

Interior is very very bad. Hyundai had used very cheap plastic inside. Many people do not notice at first glance.

Check for plastic used for the hand resting handle on all doors. Small nail scratch leaves the marks and spoils the plain plastic (considering children in a car or any person sitting). This is not the case in other cars like Swift, Polo etc. I have checked multiple times.

This turns down, because you will be sitting inside with family and car should look decent from inside. The plastic spoiles quickly.

Even the color used inner plastic is not so good. standard colors are beige or black.

Another big drawback of the car is no leg space for third person sitting in middle rear sit. The glass holder is projected too much behind leaving no space for middle person for leg. Very bad about it. because it becomes four sitter car!!!

I read some people getting confused in this forum to compare i20 with swift and others. The only comparision i20 has is honda Jazz (that too for a year). Of course Jazz is a farily superior machine and would hardly creater trouble requiring owner to go for post bying nightmares other car owner go through. Having said that i20 is significantly better looking, more aesthetic, better mileage, extremely feature rich and affordable car.

I am planning to buy a hatch. Of course the comparision is between i20 and Jazz, latter is scoring low being too expensive to be a hatch though I am confident it is the best machine. I dont think Swift comes anywhere close to either of them. Maruti is good to offer average products at average prices.

Please remember its USP is not good products, its AFTER SALES SERVICE....with Maruti you need it. You need to go to service station frequently with Maruti. I am not against Maruti, I own a Wagon R and fairly satisfied for what it is and what I paid for it.

Cheers,

Amit

^^ Stay away from the i20. The steering rattles a lot on bad roads. They are still struggling to correct it.

Hyundai's product quality is not what it was 7-8 years ago. Or 2000  Accent GLX never gave as any trouble. But our i20, which is not even an year old,  has been troublesome to say the least. They have compromised on quality standards and if you confront tem with this steering rsattling issue, they try to ignore you or have no answer to it.

Dear all, u wont believe that i testdrived this butter smooth car for about 30km. All pros are genuine. But i have a doubt. They say it has got motorised power steering is it the first car of its kind? can we rely on this type of steering?Investing in i20 on whatever cost is not a problem coz i love this hatchback leader! but i am frightened whether frequent repairs could cause severe billing as most of the hyundai service station bills on service heavily.plz clarify on this issue.booking it during december.we are maintaining a 11 yr old santro(100th car in chennai city)right from its delivery from the dealer.it has made us spend a lot but we never dislike it as its our pet. thats hyundai!

Hello Vikram, Why are u being so hypocrite? I have been always advising all consumers here to go for a test drive and ask for other opinions as well. If you are being so neutral, why offering any consumer Swift here. I have just showed the true comparisons here. The data has been directly picked up both from Hyundai and Maruti Websites. If u find anything contradictory,do let the forum know. Just don't try to misguide the people here. Cheers- Ashutosh

Anil77 big show.......from Ashutosh Trakroo don't fellow others check yourself........ most reviews maybe misguiding............. you do your own class & take your time.... its your money & you r going to suffer for wrong decision. ask only your close friends &family member to choose.......... both i20& i10era maybefooling us,too pricy... getting so less after paying so much...... It should be Value-for-Money like Swift(d) Even vista-terra-diesel/indigo-CS is vfm

Hi Avishek, It all comes down to your driving habits and city road & traffic conditions. i10 being a lighter car on an average will run about 15 km/l while you can expect i20 to deliver 13-14 on an average. Cheers Ashutosh

Avishek on 10 Dec, 2009 at 12:23 AM

Hi Ashutosh, Thank you for reply. Could you please tell me the practical mileage figures of i10 and i20? This would simplify my decision making procedure. Regards, Avishek
