        Specifications

        • Engine & Transmission

          • Engine
            1198 cc, 4 Cylinders Inline, 4 Valves/Cylinder

Timely services will keep a motor efficient and in top shape.

          • Engine Type
            4 cylinder inline petrol

The official title given by the manufacturer in terms of the name of the engine, the displacement and the number of cylinders.

A bigger displacement and more than four-cylinders generally indicate a performance-oriented engine.

          • Fuel Type
            Petrol

All cars in India either run on petrol, diesel, CNG, LPG or electric power.

          • Max Power (bhp@rpm)
            89 bhp @ 6200 rpm

Gives a good idea of the performance of the vehicle under full thrust. A higher figure here usually means a higher top speed as well.

Higher the power, the peppier the engine but it can also affect fuel economy.

          • Max Torque (Nm@rpm)
            110 Nm @ 4800 rpm

Relates to in-gear acceleration. A higher figure here means better roll-on acceleration, fewer gear shifts, and possibly better fuel efficiency.

The more torque at low RPM range makes the engine feel more responsive. It also allows the engine to run smoothly without too many gear changes.

          • Mileage (ARAI)
            16.7 kmpl

This is the maximum fuel efficiency that an engine gives. All numbers are provided by the manufacturer based on tests conducted and specified by the standards of the ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India)

Such fuel efficiency attained while driving in special conditions makes it unlikely to get it in real-world conditions

          • Drivetrain
            FWD

Cars come with different drivetrain configurations depending on the segment.

Front-wheel drive (FWD) is most common in mainstream cars while expensive cars or SUVs come with rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD).

          • Transmission
            Manual - 5 Gears

Type of transmission used to transfer power from the engine to the wheels

A manually operated transmission is the most popular type, thanks to its simplicity and low cost. Varied types of automatic transmissions are also available.

        • Dimensions & Weight

          • Length
            3900 mm

The length of the car decides its segment. In India, cars that are less than 4 metres in length enjoy reduced excise duties.

            Length
            • Length: 3900

Longer length results in more cabin space. It also adds to straight line stability.

          • Width
            1695 mm

A car's width is defined as its widest point without its mirrors.

            Width

Although more width gives you more lateral space inside the cabin, it makes the car more difficult to park in narrow spots.

          • Height
            1535 mm

The height of the car denotes the highest point of the vehicle from the ground.

            Height
            • Height: 1535

Taller the car, the more headroom there is on offer inside the cabin. However, a tall boy stance also affect the car’s centre of gravity which can cause more body roll.

          • Wheelbase
            2500 mm

The space between the center of the front and rear wheels.

            Wheelbase
            • Wheelbase: 2500

The longer the wheelbase, the more space there is inside the cabin.

          • Ground Clearance
            160 mm

It’s the space between the lowest point of the car and the ground.

            Ground Clearance
            • Ground Clearance: 160

If the car has a good amount of clearance, it’s easier for it to clear big speed breakers and overall, deal with bad roads.

          • Kerb Weight
            1060 kg

The total weight of the vehicle with all the standard equipment and all the required fluids.

        • Capacity

          • Doors
            5 Doors

            Seating Capacity
            • Seating Capacity: 5
          • No of Rows
            2 Rows

Smaller cars usually have two rows which can seat five, but some SUVs and MPVs have three rows and can seat around 7-8 passengers.

          • Fuel Tank Capacity
            42 litres

The official volume of the fuel tank of a car, usually denoted in litres.

If a car has a large fuel tank, it can cover long distances without refuelling.

        • Premium hatchback at a premium price !
Bought this car after a lot of research and waiting (waited almost 7 months before delivery in May'12). Wait period mainly due to floods in Thailand and had nothing to do with Honda India per se. Had test driven a lot of other petrol cars in the 7-8 lakh range (i20, polo, linea, fiesta, sunny) but chose Jazz primarily for practicality & driving pleasure. Exterior Futuristic, appealing design but poor build quality. Even a small bruise causes a big dent. Very light body. You need to be extra careful while driving. Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Very spacious. 5 people can sit comfortably with enough leg room for all. Boot is also big -bigger than the new DZire ! Seats though are average. I find Maruti seats to be more comfortable. Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Noiseless engine - difficult to make out if engine is on or off when car is at halt !! Steering is a joy to behold. Makes driving thoroughly enjoyable. Fuel economy is poor which has come as a nasty surprise. Am getting avg 10.5 kmpl using tankful to tankful method though almost half the travel is for short stretches (home to office) of 3 km driving at 30 kmph. Still had expected much better from an ivtec. Ride Quality & Handling Ride quality is excellent. Can handle high speeds effortlessly. Have driven at over 150 kmph in the Mumbai Pune Expressway. Ground clearance is a concern especially if 5 people are onboard. You are bound to scrape through high bumpers  Some features I Love If you forget to switch off the head lights after switching off the engine, an indicator beeps in sometime to warn you that the lights are on. If you try to drive with hand brake up, there is an indicator which beeps after sometime. Foldable outside rear view mirrors (available in top end models of most cars). Areas of improvement Definitely needs a more solid body and higher ground clearance. Lots of features missing (which competitors offer)- Rain sensing wipers, auto headlamps ( a pleasure), auto climate control, parking sensors, etc  Final Words If you are willing to pay a premium for a premium car - go for it..Otherwise, a lot of entry level sedans come at this price, sometimes with more features than Jazz. To those who think that Jazz may be dicontinued in India. I personally feel that the chances are low. They are probably not advertising Jazz like Brio and City because there are few buyers in the   7 lakh+ petrol hatchback category and those who are will definitely consider Jazz even if they dont see ads and offers by Honda!Spacious (Interior & Boot), Noiseless Engine, Light steering, Good looking dashboardLow on features (compared to competition), low ground clearance, poor build quality, low mileage

        • Honda Jazz X [MT] Excellent In Class And Quality
Researched extensively over the internet in many ways looking at petrol and diesel prices where petrol is a concern but still, I decided to go with it.  I was looking for a second car for me the other one I had previously Hyundai I10 Asta. Shortlisted Honda City, Volkswagen Polo, Hyundai I20 Diesel. The priorities got changed after looking and having a test drive for Honda Jazz. If anyone is looking for a real quality product in petrol variant then close your eyes and go for it. I booked the vehicle in middle June 2012 and within 15 days from Pride Honda Madhapur-Hyderabad, this beautiful car was delivered on June 29th, 2012 without any of the issues. Exterior Honda Jazz - It really looks big so I can say that YES 100% one of the real and quality level premium hatchback sedan. Exterior design is futuristic and will stay for another couple of years. Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Dashboard is very beautiful. Three adults can accommodate comfortably in the rear seat without having any issues with enough legroom. Enough space for tons of baggage in boot area too. Equipped with all of the other necessary and essential features with excellent powerful A/C, Audio System. Jazz X [MT] loaded with height adjustment feature for driver seat adjustment which gives excellent feeling of drive. Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox 90BHP classic in its own, Buttery Smooth Gear box. Drove in Begumpet-Hyderabad area in peak traffic hours. Mostly in 2nd Gear and 3rd Gear, Mileage as shown is 14.7 kilometer per liter into the display panel. Ride Quality & Handling HONDA Engineering means, Excellent ride quality. No question arises. Final Words A perfect and premium family hatchback sedan car equipped with all of the features required. I do not know what people are expecting more. It is truly a premium hatchback sedan loaded with all essential features. Areas of improvement Diesel variant helps HONDA alot in India.Everything Is Excellent - Stuffed With Real Quality & FeaturesYet To Discover Any

        • Sheer class- for those with taste
I was looking for a third car in the family the other two being ALTO and new Indica vista. Shortlisted and did TD of following petrol cars except punto diesel - Swift, POLO, punto (D), jazz and i20.  Exterior Jazz -  Looks really big even though it is smaller than punto, Polo or i 20. Design is futuristic and will stay for years. Others - good. Again exterior looks are subjective. Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Jazz -  Its even big. It has space space and more space for 5 full grown adults and tons of baggage. Plenty of leg room both front and rear. Front row is really huge. Jazz gives gives you that BIIIGG feeling when sitting either front or rear...And glass all around makes u feel sittinig in open space.  Dash resembles a cockpit. Polo, Punto, Swift - Great front seats with plenty of leg space. DASH for polo and Swift are superb. Punto has a bland dash. POLO is really well built with good interiors. Build quality is robust. Swift,Punto is cramped with low plastics.Does`nt give a rich feel. Back row of all 3 are real cramped with Swift taking the price and punto better of the 3.  I thought I wud suffocate to death sitting back row for Swift. POLO and Swift are for two adults and 2 kids below 10. Even the ergonomics of these cars are such that on paper these are bigger or equal to jazz they are really cramped for space in rear. i20 - Super front seats with so many features and decent space in rear. Reasonable space at rear for 3. Swift has the worst boot of all. Special mention of inbuilt music system of JAZZ.. It is awesome.. It is as good as custom made music system. The rest have mediocre music systems and some day or very soon u will end end up replacing them with custom ones. Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Swift - Really good. Its a drivers car anywhere. Power available at tap of pedal. Best fuel economy. It has best of both world engine performance and fuel economy. Very smooth gear box. Polo - Again a drivers car on high ways.  Very stable at high speeds. Poor fuel economy. Good gear box. Engine gets very noisy at higher speeds. i20 - I defnitely did not like its engine performance either in traffic or highway. Below par perfomer when compared to others. I cannot really explain why but I was really disappointed as I am a big fan of i10. Punto (D) - Again a drivers car on high ways.  Very stable at high speed. Not suitable on heavy traffic(even though u dont have to change gears becuase of high torque, it feels really heavy in traffic) there is some hesitancy to move on..It just rolls.  Very sluggish in 2nd gear. Jazz - Not a drivers car. It has enough power though.A very relaxed engine and is in no hurry. Butter smooth gear box, decent fuel economy (14kl/l and I have clocked only 150Km so far. Shud get more as engine gets tuned). Can get sluggish at low speeds if not changed to lower gears.  Engine is super silent. U can mistake engine to be off when idling..At any speed cabin noise is  very very very low compared to other cars here.. And that alone gives a very good driving and riding experience. Ride Quality & Handling Polo - Ride quality is very good and best of all cars compared here. Handling is also top notch. Swift, i20, Punto - Good. Jazz - It floats. The big glass panels, large interiors, virtually no engine noise gives u a serene feeling of gliding :).. No joke this.. Final Words If every one thought the way I did, Jazz wud have been the best seller by now :) but its the other way as Jazz is also the costliest hatchback in indianmarket.. If u want a very good car and EXCLUSIVITY then JAZZ it is !!! Areas of improvement If u are feature savvy , then can ask for list of features like i20. i20 in reality is adding up all features to mask its poor performance. Updated :: Did two long drive since   1. Chennai - Guruvayoor and back :: 1370 Km.. Avg mileage :: 16.8 km\l on the whole. Avg speed : 110km/hr : no of persons - 2adults + 1 kid ...Completed first service - Just washing (no oil change) 2. Chennai - Vellore Sreepuram and back :: 310km .. Avg speed : 90km/hr : no of persons - 5 adults + 2 kids (both 5yr old) Here is the big surprise....Onward journey was 18.1Km/l while return was 20.4km/l till we entered Chennai after which it dropped to 19.2.. All these are reading from console. I`m still surprised. Total Km covered till date : 2200Km.
