Yes even Amby has its own set of lovers. Nearer to my place there is one dealer and probably they will be the highest selling dealer pan India. (my guess. they sell around 10 veh a month). But that is not the point. As you said " if HM can provide". It is very difficult for HM at this juncture to revive. See the fate of Lancer - a very good car spoiled by the the lack of support. One can only pity the Amby now.
HM is now a BIFR case.
But all the same I know how you feel. It is only people like you who keep HM ticking. Keep it up.
Amby Come Back on 29 Sep, 2010 at 12:48 PM
Thilak - I would say it is never too late! Royal enfield for instance was in the same state until some years but today it has its own set of ardent Lovers. and if HM can provide the latest stuff and value for money, I am sure a lot of folks are going to relate to it and the Indian value system connect! at least I feel it :)

But is it not too late for the Amby to come back?. I think so. They should have done it somewhere in the late nineties when competition was hotting up. Either HM didnt realize that or didnt have the resources for that.
I do agree that it was the car for the elites for more than thirty years. It was the monopoly era. People had no choice. It had too many short comings and HM dealers in those days didnt know what is service after sales and warranty was practically unheard of. No OE spares.
But alas. Look at the fierce competition today. A variant every year. some models discontinued.
It is very difficult for Amby to comeback in its present shape. It may continue to sell. I think it is 10000 per annum (I am not sure). Monthly sales figures published dont have HM on the list.
If shape is changed it is not Amby anymore.

Dear Mr Raj. I really liked your points on the changes... I would be really keen to understand what is that ONE thing according to you, that will make the Amby the Dream car for every Indian?

Style should be changed to cater current auto market. Dash Board and Interior look should be modernized. These will promote young people to buy this car and also get good export market

I've been driving many cars for a while including the fords , toyotas , chevys and logans.but man amby is the one i still enjoy.who cares about the looks when it is so spacious inside and smooth. It doesn't have an air bag but even then is more safe compared to the fiestas and optras.speed was a problem and has now been improved by ISUZU.In short a decent and sturdy family ride and always dependable. Now can chase down most of the new cars on road with its powerful engine and good mileage. You ve said it- the car which symbolized India for so long - needs to metamorph into more modern, stylish & sexy avatar. Not only it shud move with the current times but also take on the future patterns. Any car lover can see the immense potential AMBY has to evolve into a desirable beautiful damsel. BELEIVE YOU ME- I VE DESIGNS FOR HER TO BE COMMERCIAL SUCCESS - I just need to know whom to contact. I would love to see the classic carry its lineage and yet evolve into modern appeal.
