Full Review

Hi,

I took a test drive of Fusion 1.4 TDCI today & here is my review of the same:

PROS:

  • Getting in & out of it is v easy. Seat height is at perfect level to get in & out.
  • Spacious from inside. Good headroom, legroom etc.
  • Rear seat split + rear seat complete foldable increasing boot space to 1175 L. I personally love this idea of complete foldable rear seats wherein 3-4 people can just sit in on the floor area & enjoy, maybe one can sleep also in so much space !!
  • AC is v effective; in just a few min I got chilled. Speed & acceleration hardly affected by AC at both 1st & 2nd air blower speed level.
  • Drivers view is v drive-friendly. Also sitting high gives u a better sense of control.
  • Big 15” tubeless tyres & great ground clearance, took bad roads & bumpy ones easily.
  • Same Fiesta 1.4L engine, so can expect good mileage. Even though power is 68PS, I could hardly feel lack of power as torque is extremely good.
  • Engine was so silent, I could not make out it’s a diesel engine at all !!
  • Distance to Empty (DTE) feature a great option (helps keep check of mileage).

CONS:

  • No special features offered at this price. No airbags, no ABS, no climate control, no electric mirrors etc even as an option.
  • The bulge in the middle of the rear seat is definitely going to be uncomfortable for a 3rd passenger.
  • Pushed the car till 130 kmph with accelerator pressed fully - don’t think so it can go more than 150kmph (I know some people claim its top speed as 160kmph). But seriously this is fun to drive & safe, not meant for racing.
  • Ford’s service expensive – that’s what many people say.
  • Plenty of storage spaces (10 spaces), but a single one to keep a 1L bottle !!

Overall I’m very much satisfied by Fusion as compared to other cars. Anyone who can stretch their budget for Fusion, can certainly consider it !

Joseph, I'm also waiting to purchase Verna SX model in another 2-3 months but i think it is worthwhile to wait for new Fiesta in late 2009 (looks terrific & better engine) + wait for Toyota Yaris. In Verna vs Fiesta debate Verna is anytime better. In terms of luggage space not much diff is thr though Fiesta's is more, it also depends on how intelligently u utilize d space. Read all reviews on Verna & Fiesta from net urself.

Please advise on diesel sedans -verna versus Ford Fiesta. Luggage space is important to me. My usage will be 60 km daily. I am using Xantro Xing at the moment

Has anyone used Fusion off-roads or on bumpy rural tracks? How does it fare?

...contd... Linea has most features & space here, however consider FIAT a -ve point here. Performance wise I think Fusion is best here with 1.4L engine. Prob with Linea is i think high speeds & 5 ppl with AC wld be a problem in that engine - slighlty same fr Dezire. Resale wise obviously Dezire is d only contender here. Dont worry abt maintenance now, but again FIAT cld be a prob in this case after 1-2 yrs. So u'll have to test drive urself & decide. I wld suggest consider Verna also. Aditya

Hi Bharat.I dont think so Linea falls in ur budget, but still go ahead & consider it, it is anytime better than Dezire & Fusion. Both Dezire & Linea have same 1.25L diesel engine, but Linea's more power with VGT.Though Fusion is a v pleasurable drive as compared with cars, check it urself, though I'm nt in favor of Fords's dealership & service nowadays.I haven't driven Dezire but dont like the looks & space of it.Linea is most spacious & luxirious here.Dezire is most VFM however....contd..

DearAditya, I seek your URGENT advise!!! My budget is 8lakhs max. Was looking at Desire, then someone mentioned Linea and Fusion. Now total confusion and tension in family. Please advise for diesel of all three. Which is best in my fixed budget of 8L on road. Please advise based on features, performance, resale, maintenance, looks. Thank you so much in advance. Would be much obliged. Thank you. Sincerely, BHARAT. Karnataka.

John...Verna also has all 4 disc brakes, however i dont like its long side rear view mirrors. Mileage wise both give arnd 13-15 in city, but verna gives more on highways. However highest model of verna is 2 lac>than Fusion, keep that in mind. verna has better image obviously.Ford's dealership & spare can be a prob.If u r not particular for sedan, u can also look at upcoming i20 diesel(v stylish & bttr than getz). It has a more efficient diesel engine.

Aditya on 14 Dec, 2008 at 08:41 PM

John, 1st u need 2 decide petrol/diesel.I personally suggest diesel nowadays. In petrol u've to decide b/w sx4 & city.In diesel verna is anytime better than Fusion & over fiesta also.Verna has more torque, power, boot space, sooo many features & specs, even wth 5 ppl on car wth luggage,it can pull with AC easily, stable car at high speeds, top speed arnd 180.Fusion wins on space however marginally,Ford dealership declining & becoming a problem, speed >130wth difficulty.Ive not driven SX4 so far.
