hi! for long i wanted to update my review  as its been exactly  13 months and have driven   upto 21000  kms till date     and my car is  holding on pretty good considering that i admire civic alot but still went for chevy  at time of purchase ignoring skodas for their hefty charges on ass which i believe are unacceptable
      .lets go point wise:

      1) ride wasnt good  as it used to be based on a friend suggestion went for michelin tyres  3 months back and since then its been great and had no problems with ride since then
2))i get a milege of 13 with ac on in city  and 15-16 with ac   on highways till date
3)braking suspension ac have remained  good without any problems
4)power i guess we need not talk of it as   everyone knows about this monster
      5) the sluggish ness at low rpm is there  but  is not an un manageable after evry car will have somthing  that will need a gettting used to
      6) i touch a max of 175  every now and then on long drives and it holds out great no rattles or no pressure to slowdown at that speed but  was tempting me to give it more  but seeing worried look on my wife face i have to slow down everytime so still havent touched my target 190 the max speed specified by gm
7)build quality is good  aint excellent but had no rattling issues of any kind as brought out by some magnum users  but yes the quality some plastics used on the interiors isnt that great
      8) confort has been good  for long drives never had any complaints from anyone sitting in rear even from my brother who is 6.1 tall

      problems faced till date :
      1)  rear wiper wasnt working  when i crossed 5000kms
      2) got strange sound when i release hand brake at near 10000kms
      3) was away to paris(where i had driven porsche an wonderful experience) for more then a month  and on return  when tried to start the car didnt start battery got drained out
luckily no other problems popped up as diesel cars cant be set aside without using for longtime
were resolved instantly by gm without any issues
and they did been in touch reminding me of my service dates and to know how the car was holding up
      4) did change audio player which  was ordinary   to sony

got a dent luckily minute one as a crazy can u believe women motorist wanted to jump signal expecting me also to do so no other damage done luckily
as we all know black color though is sexy  one to go for will need more attention then other cars to maintain it good

my wife did take quite some time to be able to drive the car freely   the way she used to drive  second hand city(old) we once had  before she moved onto  swift .she found the sluggishness of the car at low rpm bit strenuous  though now she can drive easily

other then whats mentioned above  never had any prob

though did consider moving on to other cars  not becoz of gm facing trouble though i did feel a pinch when it did happen regarding my resale value  but as my career got some pumping even during recession that i thought of moving to others but decided against inorder to invest and save rather go for an momentary happiness also that i till date  havent faced any problems regarding what i feel negatively publicized about
       gm aftersaleservice
having said that  i did be  apprehensive if  i put myself in the shoes of a  first car buyer
so eventhough  i did postphone my new car purchase as of now but  very soon will again start looking at others as i do believe once chevy  launches cruze later in the year   the resale value of magnum is gona take some dent and i think i have made my decision if i do go for  another  which will be
       HONDA ACCORD

as an user of chevy magnum 2.0 lt tdci black car from past 13 months and having driven 21000kms i am very happy with gm till date and had no issues with them and am very satisfied with my car  performance on whole though seeing all new releases  i do find my car looking more like an executive one  then an attitude filled fresher at the end  wasnt heavy on  my pocket  which i was aprrehensive of  at time of purchase.

good comfort, interiors and a monster to drivesluggish at low rpm

Hai all.. I ve purchased a magnum LS after taking a very long study and research... Actually im not in a position to write a good revieew at this time as i ve only covered around 6k kms.. But there are facts worth notting.. I feel this s d best buy in this segmant.. Its power is so amazing.. U reach 120 kmph within 150metres of drive from rest.. Just press the accelerator... u are thrown back to the seats by the enormous power... The handling is very nice... Suspensions are very very smooth and u can ve a real good ride.. Another important factor is the space interiors... The space is uncomparable.. Even after adjusting the front seats for maxmm comfort, you ve ample legspace in the rear seats.. You will find octavia very much compramising in this aspect.. The drive also... octavia gives a smooth solemn ride while magnum gives the shear pleasure of driving.. the power packed feeling which the skoda lacks.. Also considering the maintanance costs... magnum is much afordable... Just for a comparison.. the osrvm of skoda costs around 7000 rs while magnum gives it for just 2600rs. THere lies the main advantage.. These are all my abservations only.. Also the chevy promise is free for magnum... which means you are completely free of maintanance for 3 yrs or 45000kms.. That means company does any maintanance during this time including oil change.. labour charge.. other spaer parts if needed.. So you need not worry about the maintanance atleast for the time being... I see it as a real blessing... All that is needed id just take your car to the service centre in time... This s why i opted magnum above skoda... Another choice in my mind was corolla altis... Its a petrol car... With a mileage of 10kmpl.. I ve to vapourise rs.5 per km minimum... So dont even think of that.. Honda civic also tails the same problem... Magnum gives a gud mileage and exciting pulling on diesel... So this must be the choice.. the rite choice.. And a word on the interiors... its really classy.. The interiors are royally designed.. Another important thing is its ground clearance... Its adequate for a safe drive... But the overall build of the car is better in skoda i think... Magnum gives much rattling on playing loud music... and the gears are a bit hard. In short.. this is the best buy in this range.. Only thing is the chevy tag... GM has a vry poor marketting strategy with foolish ads and repulsive executives...the horrifying pick up, excellent interiors, exceptionally spacious, looks, good ground clearnce..gears not dat smooth, noisy outside..

Bought this in sept 07. Been in love with it since. I own a Skoda Octavia as well but guys, octavia is the past and magnum is the future of diesels. Couldn't believe it till I actually drove it. FE was a major criteria for me and it gives me around 14-15 in the city only. On one highway trip i got around 19 with stable speeds around 120-140. I thought that it would be better than the Octi but it exceeded all my expectations. Interiors are superb with high quality finish and the exteriors are just awesome. I own a black magnum and in the night with the OVRM's switched on - it looks AWESOME.

Saying anything about the would not suffice, one has to drive it to believe it. BTW superb power and more than enough torque on offer.Seems blazingly fast and furious than my octi and it has seriously changed the way i looked at diesels.
Just have a look at the gear ratios (maximum that my guts could handle) in kmph
      1st - 45
      2nd - 90
      3rd - 130
      4rth - 170
      5th - 200
Interiors are all bieze and feels very warm and comfy - much better than my octi's (its interiors feel plain boring). I simply love this car and I am soon planning to sell my Skoda Octavia.

      cheers
Gem of an engine, impressive FE, VFM, b'ful n rich interiors and exteriors, amazing ride qualitynone

chevrolet optra magnum 2.0 LT black color review:

Why did I go for Chevy Optra Magnum TDCi LT?
I visited the Sundaram Motors Show room in Chennai for a test drive and they offered me to test drive 2 optras. 1 was a brand new one and the other had done 25000km. I really appreciated this test drive offer as no other car dealer did so.
The Test drive of the new car was wow. I was amazed by the performance, ride/handling, comfort and absolute no noise in the cabin other than the air flowing through the a/c vents. Pickup was great, I was doing 80km in second gear and the handling was good. Gear
shift was very good. The Optra swallowed the potholes with ease, the independent suspensions really did what it was designe to do. It was a drivers dream. There was volumes of space in the car and rear legroom was the best of all the cars I tested.

Test Drive of the 25000KM Optra, driving this car was not different from the new one other than that it was noisier when you rolled down the windows. The performance was almost same, so was the ride and handling. I did hear or feel any unwanted rattles or vibrations.

The two test drives really gave a very good insight into the overall quality of the car. I felt it was good.

GM's Cashless ownership offer also appealed to me though I knew this was another marketing strategy. But, a lot of folks advised me to go for it.

The cost of maintenance was a lot cheaper and price of spare parts were affordable for me.
and frankly it beats expectations by miles. I have clocked 3000 kms so far and have tried highways, city rides and rough roads.
The torque wave is simply addictive. The ride quality is excellent. Car is roomy and the interior finish is top notch.

Bit of sluggishness in low RPM but there is an abundance of power in any gear at RPM > 1800. getting to 140 has never been easier. However i felt city ride is jerky, the car is always rushing forward.after some time to time drives i am very convenient with it now
I love the grunt of the engine and the way the engine sounds after 2200 RPM.

PS is heavy, thus handling in city is bit of a pain. AC is a pleasure and like most CRDIs doesn't impact the power at all.

the power is brutal, unlike verna, the car accelerates on full control and power delivery is predictable. High speed handling is good.

      Gear shift is smooth.

Back seat comfort was not great for my mother who had back ache, solved the problem with a cushion. Leg room is ample. Lot of small storage spaces

I choose the LT model because I normally drive AROUND 1500KMS AND  long drives, so I  feel the necesity for ABS and Airbags.

Its living upto this its motto - "Powered to take on the road" it really has the Power that never lets you down. It has a lot of power left in each of the gears.
Its car that will satisfy you on either ways - you drive or be driven around.

I haven't ripped it MUCH only touched 100Kmh occasionally, just waited and waited the engine to set in during the first 1000 km, and after the first services I hadd "unleash hell". FE is pretty good, I got around 15km/l mostly driving in Chennai traffic with AC on

service of cchevrolet was excellent  and there have been some frequent enquiries by chevy people to find out i felt  even after 2 months of purchase also to remind me of my first service

had no problems of any kind   since purchasing of my car

and its a true VFM car

and my wife also loves it    very much

and i am being extremely careful   and i am very glad my intense black optra  shines  like it did  when i first got it out  of showroom   and till date no scratches and hopefully nothing like that happens!

lastly very  hearty thanks to deepam rajiv sri   for helping me out

good comfort great interiors an vfm carbit sluggish in city traffic but with some drives thats not a problem

I recently bought the Chevy Magnum 2.0 TCDi LS.

      First.. The positives:

I dont know what impresses me more -- The after sales service or the car itself.

I've got calls from the local delaer and from chevy HQ asking if I am happy with the car and have any complaints. I bought 2 cars from Maruti earlier and dont remember anyone asking me for my opinion about the car. I hope this enthusiam for service continues. I could get used used to this ;-)

The power, space, fit and finish is AMAZING..It moves like a rocket and handles well at high speeds. At 120 kmph, the ride was so smooth that I felt like I was driving at 60. The mileage is excellent, though I doubt if it gives the figures, the company promises. The diesel engine is a bit noisy but the interiors are well insulated from external sounds.

      What could be improved:

      1. The plastic quality -- The glass holder attachment is flimsy and often gets detached from the spring holding it in place. This can be refixed quickly myself though.

      2. The 'artificial' leather seat cover provided by Chevy is not stitched very well. Some of the seams came undone after 2 months. (I bought the LS version so I thought seat covers might look better than the cloth upholstery.).

      3. The car occasionally stalls in second gear at low speeds. -- No, I wasn't going too slow for second gear... The dealer said that this has been reported in a few other cars too. This however happens very rarely (perhaps once in 3-4 weeks).

      4. The middle section in the rear seat is a bit uncomfortable, because the arm-rest when folded back is rather hard. This is the same for the skoda as well. The honda civic's rear seat however does not have this problem.

      5. There seems to be a bit of rust forming on the ventilated disc brakes on all the wheels. I dont know if this is normal.

I read and compared dozens of cars over a period of 4 months, before I decided to purchase the Magnum.

I had originally intended to buy the skoda, but the skoda vs Magnum comparison booklet given by the chevy sales team and a review by AutoCar magazine in June/July 2007 (not sure of the mag name) convinced me.

Overall, I think this is a fantastic car to own with great value for money and would definitely recommend it to someone with a 10-12 lakh budget for a new car.

hey guys........ i bought the Optra Magnum 2.0 LS 3.5 months ago. i have covered nearly 6000kms in it and i would very gladly say, am falling in love with the car more and more every day. its an absolute pleasure driving it day in and day out.
Well as for the performance of the car, within the extremely busy roads in chennai am getting a mileage of 12.5 on an average and on the highways, it gives 15.5 Km/lt which i would say is an excellent mileage taking into account its power and the engine. U can overtake any car on the road without even a second thought in ur mind. the car just zips away in a flash. once the pedal is pushed to the metal, u r pushed back to the seat just coz of its sheer power and the pickup.
I got 2 of my friends owning the Scoda Octavia, but i would rate anyday this car better than that comparing the pickup and the riding comfort. However i accept the overall build is better in Scoda. The Scoda costs 2.5 lacs more than this, but this car gives a much luxurious feel for its cost. The car is extremely sound proof and u dont hear ur own horn honking inside. so it adds to the delight, cutting out all the noises on the streets.
On the whole, i would say of all the cars i have driven in this segment, this car is the best of the lot and the best value for the money that we pay for it.
Well, as for the cons of the car, am really dissapointed with the gear box of the car, as the gear shift is not all that smooth compared to other cars. Maybe GM could have worked a bit better on that aspect of the car. But taking into account the majority of the pros of the car, i guess this is something negligible and can manage with it.
One more thing is that, the build quality of the car is not all that good. I have put a 12" sub woofer at the boot, and the entire boot vibrates when the sub is playing giving a jarring noise.
Otherwise, its one hell of a power packed car and anytime anyday, i would suggest this anyone who has the idea of going for it.
Happy motoring guys and let me know if u guys need any further details on the performance of the car.
Excellent pick up, luxurious interiorsgear box

The TDCi technology used is the most innovative tech...It means TURBO COMMON-RAIL DIRECT INJECTION Engine wherein there is a proper blend of both - Turbo for Power and CommonRail Tech. for Shattering Performance and Effeciency.

Magnum reaches 0-100 in just 9.8 secs.
The highest model LT has got all the features like ABS and Airbags, Leather Seats and a 2-din Music System etc.

At a price around Rs 10.10 Lacs (lowest 2.0 Litre model on-road), this is the best option available and better than a VERNA DIESEL which is around 9 Lacs and has only a 1.5 Litre Crdi Engine.

In this segment presently none other car can beat Chevy OpMag.
It is better in all respects like - value for money, features, power (2.0), mileage, space, looks are appealing. It is practical to drive in City as well as on highway.

The Biggest ADVANTAGE is that the price of spare parts of CHEVY cars are less, compared to others and thus OPTRA IS A CAR WITH LOW MAINTENANCE COSTS....

121 HORSES makes its engine most EXHILARATING. In the 2nd gear it fells as if an aircraft is taking off....In Short, It is an ALL-ROUNDER....

amazing power, awesome exteriors, the most value for money car, loads of space, lots of features....Handling

this car has everything, even in the lowest max model, apart from the music system.  the power is crazy, it would even make an accord shy, thanx to the turbo. the car is slightly shy of a rocket and has the same acceleration as the bmw 320d. only tht this car is a lot more cheaper give better mileage leave apart the class of bmw and its comfort. 0 -100 in 9 secs. company claims 9.8 but i did it in nine, probably because the engine was tuned in that manner. top speed is easily 200 wrongly claimed as 180 by the company. very comfy, now for the bad aspects, octavia give a better mileage but apart from tht this car rules every aspect, i fail to understand y it hasnt made a boom, probably becasue of slightly older technology engine, but tht matters negligiably. mileage is around 14 if properly driven and can even go to 15 the problem is tht with such a monster u cannot help but indulge in the sheer pleasure. the another con is the wierd steering, it is huge, would have love it if it was somewhat similar to the civic.
realy amazinf car and good value for money, the salesmen at chevy are not very well informed about the car hence probably unable to convince and attract customers but this car is an excellent buy.
extremely high torque, acceleration, a/c , suspension ect......huge steering wheel, bad audio system.

      Exterior Good looks.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Everything so beautifull except center console and music system.(Installed Pioneer AVH-P4490BT ,Blaupunkt Velocity series VC 662 component speakers on 4 doors, JBL 4 channel amp 750 watts(powering my 4 speakers) , Blaupunkt velocity monoblock 2 Channel amplifier with bass control 400 watts (powering my Pioneer 12" Subwoofer). Installed reverse sensors and good quality reverse camera connected with my pioneer LCD. Made it a complete car.)

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Performance:This is the part why I chose optra..it can rule the road. My car is baught on April 2012. I've driven 6000 kms now. I've installed enginecal tuning box which is custom tuned for my own driving purpose.  Very happy. Gear box is really smooth. A 2 litre Engine can produce maximum 150 to 170 bhp at this torque(talking about same segment cars ) Where cruz has 150. This is because of chevrolet engine built quality..if u try the same BHP on same engine made by Indian cars the engine will blow off..because the built quality is so inferior. And the optra has proved on its engine life also. Nothing to worry. There was a romour that this model(Optra Magnum) may be stopped when they slashed down the price in between. But still , I opted for it.I just enquired about the availability of spareparts if the model is stopped and i was informed , even if a model is stopped, the parts will still be available for another 10 years. So I could not compromise on this lovely machine. I'm addicted now. Thanks to chevrolet. I had an opel astra 1.7 turbo..very robust car. I can very well say you GM cars will not ditch you on safety. Its very safe comfortable and confident cars if u know to drive. So guys if you plan to buy one you dont have to try comparing..as there is none in the segment if u can compromise a little on mileage for the performance.

Ride Quality & Handling Great ride quality. I can say that the ABS really does its job very well unlike some other cars. I have never had skidding experience even though im a fast driver. I have touched 180 km/hr. it accelerates very well.

Final Words The car is amazing and confident to drive around. Real passionate drivers can surely go for it. This car is a victim of poor marketing from chevrolet. Only those who knows it will go 4 it now.  A real beast.

Areas of improvement Had some minor issues with the after sales service.. They should improve quality and dedication. Breaking could be improved & make it smooth like Laura.  Need traction control on lt variant & Provide an LCD music system with bluetooth on Lt variant, reverse sensors, provide a good horn, good head lamp bulbs.

126 BHP & gr8 torque 305, Suspension, cabin space(more than cruz) ,clutch rest, All wheel disk brakeMileage, Music system & center console ,headlamp bulbs,

It has been 3months since i own my magnum it has been a wonderful experience to drive ..Smooth accelaration and never lacks of power ..though powerful yet can handle at eace in city roads of chennai ...and gives a milage of 14KMPL..space is too good rear confort is excellent conbined with silky smooth suspensions ..engine is noicy but inside the car is silent ...with 4 disc and backed with ABS dont you worry of stopping yours but then be careful none from behind bumps you ....Excellent boot space too to laod your baggages on a long vacation ..

Now it is great on looks from the front ..rear could hsve been better shaped ..Head Lamps will require uplift it not quite bright on highways ...dont you worry on a cost of rs 1200 you can fit in 100/90 W halogens ..

Acceralaration is smooth but it little tough to change gears ...gear shift is little hard ..A/c needs to be little powerful it does not chill the entire space ...for music lovers the indeck Alpine is not enough to give you that extra punch ...should have been better ...

Well rest the dash is superb interiors feels posh ..seats are awesome ..what more ..

Great car ..at an excellent price ..a true indian asking

Great accelaration with combined fuel economy ..comfort anf safetyGear shft is too hard & A/C comfort
