I was looking for a car in the budget of 7-9 lacs on road hence had 4/5 clear options.....Honda City, Ford Fiesta, Hyundai Verna, SX4 and Chevrolet Aveo. My primary requirement in addition to a confortable interior was Fuel economy since I travel almost 100-120 kms a day.

After much deliberations, I finally decided to purchase a Chevy Aveo in March 2008. This was certainly an excellent choice. The Car looks heavy & masculine. The drive is too smooth. The interiors are plush. AC cooling is class...even the passenger on the rear seat start feeling the cool immediately.

I was very happy to drive my car but over a period of time, started realising that it has already started hitting my pocket. With a mileage of around 10 km per litre, it has become a 'challenge' to drive the car. (This is much below the promised mileage)

I reported this issue to the Showroom on my first reassurence service (1000km), when I was duly informed that this will improve after the first service at 5000km. Now I have already driven 7000+ km and the first service is also over....the fuel economy story remains the same. I had even spoken to a Chevy Executive in Delhi, who very promptly arranged a 'Mileage Check-up" for my car....however nobody turned up from the local dealer (Mumbai) on the fixed up date (In fact I had to compromise on many other commitments only to ensure that the car gets checked up)

So...to all the prospective buyers, I leave the question to selecting this car...as open ended.

Dear All, Mileage depends upon engine cc,traffic and our driving skills. If we don't consider driving skills at present a 1400 cc engine in trafic may give around 9-11 km/l of any auto make which is obvious. NEW AVEO 2009 CAR is loaded with many features and a very improved car and on road price is 5.9L (LS on road price).

hondas are extremely costly to maintain, 3months or 5 thousand kms whichever is less, and the minimum servicing cost is Rs 1800. One ends up paying around 8 thousand a year just on servicing. BTW it is much better opting for the Fiat Linea fully loaded Diesel rather than buying the New Honda city 2008 PETROl.

Well. I recently purchased Aveo 1.4LS(limited Edition) and i think it is a good buy, but no company has manufactured a complete car as yet. Aveo interiors are perfect, But there is something which anyone can notice, Like loud door closing, cheap side view mirrors, choppy gearbox, small glove box, no side pockets, Engine goes slow if you try to pick up speed when AC is on. Mileage is less, Its a good buy overall, but in case if you have some extra money to spend, would say go for new honda city.

Dear Mr. Anonymous... I would also like to add that I am not an expert in Vehicle engineering but can only suggest you on practical aspects as I have tried to do above.

It is no time since you have spent on your new City and even if you a getting the recent version for 1 lac less, the first issue is to find out what resale amount will you get for your existing vehicle. Secondly, the new model is yet to be seen by me in Mumbai and I understan that the new version would have cosmetic changes mostly, it is completely upon you to decide on the sale & purchase. Will the entire process be value for money for you? Wat do you say?
