A8 is a luxury sedan, manufactured by one of the leading German carmakers - Audi. The car, launched in India, has been specifically designed to suit Indian driving conditions and the needs of the consumers in the country. It offers refined ride and comes with three powerful engine options - two petrol and one diesel. The exteriors of A8 feature Audi's luxurious design, as found in other vehicles in its product line. Exterior

The sophisticated design of Audi A8 is striking enough to impress everyone at the very first glance. The muscular trapezoidal unit in the front, formed by the combination of the lower and upper sections of the radiator grille, adds to the intricacy in the design of the sedan. In fact, this is perhaps the identifying feature of Audi A8. The sparkling LED tail lamps adorn the rear-end of the vehicle.

Engine

The 4.2L Quattro petrol engine of Audi A8 produces a power of 350 PS @ 6800 rpm and a torque of 440 Nm @ 3500 rpm. The model equipped with this engine accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 250 km/h. The 6.0L Quattro W12 petrol engine delivers an output of 450 PS @ 6200 rpm and a torque of 580 Nm @ 4000 rpm. It accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds and its tops speed is 250 km/h. The 3.0 TDI Quattro diesel engine produces a power of 233 PS @ 4000 rpm and a torque of 450 Nm @ 1400 rpm. It accelerates from rest to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds and promises to deliver a top speed of 243 km/h. All the engines are coupled with six speed automatic transmission.

Interiors

Quality, ergonomics and functionality are the characteristic features of the roomy interiors of Audi A8. The car comes with the options of Valcona and Natural leather upholstery for its seats. The ergonomically-designed electrical seats provide optimum level of comfort to its occupants. The four-spoke multifunction steering wheel is adorned by finest quality leather. The cabin of the sedan features Multi Media Interface (MMI), with its retractable 7-inch color monitor displaying the audio information, route guide and other functions clearly. The interior lighting pack provides a cozy ambience inside the cabin.

Ride and Handling

Regardless of what type of engine you choose, you will definitely be impressed by the balanced ride and handling of Audi A8, ensured by its advanced suspension system. Adding to the comfort is the driver adjustable air suspension, which ensures a comfortable ride without any kind of body roll over bumps and potholes on uneven Indian roads. With the power assisted rack and pinion steering, the vehicle proves to be surprisingly agile.

Safety

Audi A8 is fully packed with the latest safety features that ensure all-round protection for the passengers. The standard safety features of the sedan include anti-theft system, Antilock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), brake assist, dual stage seat belts and electromechanical parking brake. Apart from this, the automobile's 'Servotronic' technology ensures that it is controlled precisely at high speed and the driver has to take minimum efforts while parking.

Variants, Price and Color

Audi A8 is available in three variants, which include 4.2L (petrol), 6.0L (petrol) and 3.0 TDI (diesel). The 4.2L variant is priced at Rs 83 lakh (approx), the 6.0L model comes with a price tag of Rs 1.26 Crore (approx) and Audi A8 3.0 TDI will cost you around Rs 72 lakh (approx). The sedan comes in a lovely range of colors, including Night Blue, Brilliant Black, Phantom Black, Deep Green, Cherry Black, Oyster Grey Metallic, Avus Silver Pearl, Impala Beige, Ice Silver Metallic and Ibis White.

Verdict

A hugely underrated yet brilliant car. Commonly called a modern classic, the Audi A8 offers staggering performance clubbed with what one would call the cool quotient. With brilliant engineering as well as solid build quality the Audi A8 is one of the most involving cars to drive as well as a huge status symbol to be driven to the red carpet in.
