Tata Harrier receives over 10,000 bookings in India since launch

-The Tata Harrier has a waiting period of four months.

-Tata Motors has only shipped around 2000 units of the Harrier since its launch in January.

-Tata Motors is working on a 1.6-litre four-cylinder GDI petrol motor for the Harrier.

-It will soon get a six-speed automatic transmission & sunroof.

Tata Motors launched the Harrier in India in January, priced from Rs 12.69 lakhs to Rs 16.29 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). Our sources reveal that the Tata Harrier has now received over 10,000 bookings in India since its launch in the country, while the waiting period has shot up to four months. Bookings for the Harrier commenced in mid-October 2018, and the SUV can be booked at an amount of Rs 30,000.

The Harrier is based on Land Rover’s D8 platform, christened as OMEGA Arc, and it has been optimised for costs and modified to suit the Indian conditions. While the company is sitting on an order of over 10,000 bookings, it has shipped under 2000 units since launch. This is primarily attributed to a few quality issues with the initial lot of cars, which were addressed at the dealership level.

Sources have revealed that the Tata Harrier will soon get a six-speed automatic transmission, while sunroof will also be offered on the SUV. Tata Motors is said to be working on a 1.6-litre four-cylinder GDI petrol motor that is likely to be introduced in the Harrier in its BS-VI guise in 2020.

Currently, the Harrier uses a 140 bhp/350 Nm Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre Multijet turbocharged diesel engine that is coupled with a six-speed manual transmission. The Harrier slots right between the Hyundai Creta and the Mahindra XUV500, and it is a good Rs 2.5 lakhs cheaper than the Jeep Compass.
