The Volkswagen brand sold 6845 vehicles in the month of September 2011, a growth of 39 percent over 4,663 vehicles sold in September 2010. Despite the sluggish market, the Polo and the Vento continue to bring in the numbers for the brand with a total of 6335 units sold in September 2011.

The Volkswagen brand sold 6529 vehicles in the month of July 2011, a growth of 151 percent over 2597 vehicles sold in July 2010.  

Volkswagen ended the year 2010 with sales of 32, 627 unit vehicles across India. This showed a sales growth of over 974 per cent when compared to the same period last year (January-December 2009 – 3039 units were sold). 5772 unit vehicles were sold in the month of December itself.

Volkswagen announced an increase in the price of the Polo. Starting January 1, 2011 this popular hatchback will witness a hike starting at 2.9 %. Commenting on this, Mr. Neeraj Garg, member of Board & Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Volkswagen Group Sales India Pvt. Ltd. said “We have been faced with constant rise in input cost over the past several months and have tried our best to absorb it.  However, in order to continue to maintain our quality standards that our customers expect from us we have had to increase the price by a small percentage.”

Worldwide deliveries by the Volkswagen Group for the first eight months of the current year totaled 4.70 million vehicles, representing a 13.4 percent increase on the previous year. In August alone, deliveries rose by 11.2 percent to 545,500  units. As a result, the Group outperformed the global automotive market, not only for the month of August but also for the year so far.

The Volkswagen Polo 1.6 L Petrol variant has made its way into the Indian Car Market. The car will boast of a 1598 cc engine which will produce 104 bhp.  Its predecessor, the Polo 1.2 L Highline has a 1198 cc engine. The rest of the specifications being the same, the under-the-hood  change is bound to grab the attention of all those wishing to fly in this sturdy hatchback.

The all new face lifted Skoda Fabia is on its way. The face lifted Fabia was unveiled by Skoda at the Geneva Motor Show held in March this year. The car will be here by October this year and apart from the minor tweaks when it comes to the exterior, its whats under the hood that has undergone a significant change. The new Fabia will sport the diesel engine that currently powers the Volkswagen Polo. 

Volkswagen India began production of its mid-sized sedan, the Volkswagen Vento last evening at its plant in Chakan near Pune. Vento is the first car from the Volkswagen brand which will be exclusively manufactured in India. The time-frame leading up to the official start of production of the Volkswagen Vento is unusual as it is only a year since the Volkswagen plant at Chakan started production.

Update: Volkswagen Vento Prices Announced - Starts at 6.99L The Volkswagen Vento, one of the most talked about upcoming sedan, was showcased by Volkswagen on the 6th of July, 2010 in New Delhi. The Volkswagen Vento is the sedan version of the Volkswagen Polo which was launched earlier this year. The Vento will be available in the petrol and diesel variants. Both the variants will boast of a 1.6-litre engine which produces 105bhp. This German sedan will compete with cars like the Honda City, Hyundai Verna and the Fiat Linea.

Today Volkswagen released the first sketch of its new Sedan that is slated to hit the Indian roads later this year.It has been specifically designed for India and will be manufactured in Volkswagen’s Chakan plant. It will no doubt carry the Volkswagen DNA of German Engineering tailored to the requirements of the Indian consumer.
