Volvo Auto India inaugurated a showroom in Kochi which is registered under the name of MGF Auto and is located at NH-47 bypass. The showroom is spread over an area of more than 3500sq.ft.

Volvo Auto India today announced the appointment of Mr. Tomas Ernberg as the Managing Director of the company. He will be responsible for the overall planning and operations in India. Mr. Ernberg has taken over from Mr. Paul de Voijs who completed a successful stint in India.  

Volvo has begun production of the C30 Electric. The fully electric version of the C30 hatchback, 50 vehicles of which have been undergoing tests since late 2010, will be built at the Swedish carmaker’s Ghent factory, while installation of components including the electric motor and batteries will be done at the Göteborg facility.The electric hatch can be recharged from a regular household power socket, with a full recharge taking just about seven hours, which is good for a driving range of 150km. The car does 0-600kmph in 4.0 seconds and goes on to a top speed of 130kmph. Volvo plans to make about 250 by end of 2012.

Volvo Buses India Private Limited announced the 100% buyout of Azad Group share, its JV partner since 2008.  This increases Volvo Buses stake from the current 70% to 100% ownership.  Volvo buses is witnessing increased demand from both private and institutional customers and this move will provide Volvo Buses greater flexibility to expand and put in place ambitious growth plans in the coming years.

Volvo has launched its new mid-size SUV the XC60 today. The XC60 gets a 2.4-litre five-cylinder diesel engine that churns out 205bhp of power and 420Nm of torque. The Volvo XC60 costs Rs 39.5 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) and Rs 41.41lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai with octroi). Volvo is known for its safety and the Swedish company claims that the XC60 is the safest Volvo among the others that are currently sold in India.

Volvo Auto India announced its association with Aircel Chennai Open 2011 as the ‘Official Car’ for the tournament. As a part of this association, the tennis courts for Aircel Chennai Open will showcase the luxurious Volvo XC60. This is one of the most unique associations where the car will be showcased at the tennis courts itself. All the dignitaries and players will have the privileged experience of Volvo cars during the course of Aircel Chennai Open 2011.

Volvo Auto India firmed up plans for the launch of its latest offering Volvo XC60 on the 24th of November this year. Speaking on the occasion was  Paul de Voijs, Managing Director, Volvo Auto India. He said, "We believe in innovating for life and Volvo XC60 bears testimony to our commitment. It is essential to establish the differentiator in one’s offering, the XC60 will not only redefine our technological DNA, but will also form an integral part of our volume expansion strategy for India going forward."

Auto Mall 2010, a 5 days automobile extravaganza, was inaugurated at the Gurgaon Shopping Festival, at Leisure Valley, Sec-29, Gurgaon. It is scheduled from the 6th to the 10th October, 2010. Auto Mall 2010 is slated to be full of action and entertainment. It is hosting some of the best national and international automotive brands in the country along with related products and services.

We posted earlier that CarWale was at the Hyderabad International Auto Show and while there, we got first hand information about the happenings there. The Auto Show was held from the 22nd July to 25th of July at HICC, Novotel. Apart from a 100 models of cars and bikes, the event showcased a range of new launches, vintage cars and bikes, concepts vehicles, high performance vehicles, SUVs, super bikes and much more. The event brought together auto and accessory manufacturers, services and various finance options, all under one roof.
