The VW group has published record sales for the first almost. The VW Vento has been very well in India too. VW reported strong growth in India, where 28,100 (7,900; +256.7 percent) vehicles were handed over to their new owners. “Developments in the first quarter were excellent. Growth regions such as China, India or Russia again produced a strong performance. And delivery figures for our innovative and young model range remained high in the mature markets in Western Europe and North America as well,” Group Board member for Sales Christian Klingler said in Wolfsburg on Friday.

Volkswagen ended the year 2010 with sales of 32, 627 unit vehicles across India. This showed a sales growth of over 974 per cent when compared to the same period last year (January-December 2009 – 3039 units were sold). 5772 unit vehicles were sold in the month of December itself.

The Volkswagen Group increased its profitability in the first nine months of 2010 and further expanded its position in the international automotive markets. The number of vehicles delivered rose by 12.9 % to 5.4 million (January - September 2009: 4.8 million), a new delivery record for the Group. Volkswagen’s global market share climbed to 11.6 %. Sales revenue was up by 19.9 percent to €92.5 billion as compared to €77.2 billion last year. Profit after tax totaled €4.0 billion.

Worldwide deliveries by the Volkswagen Group for the first eight months of the current year totaled 4.70 million vehicles, representing a 13.4 percent increase on the previous year. In August alone, deliveries rose by 11.2 percent to 545,500  units. As a result, the Group outperformed the global automotive market, not only for the month of August but also for the year so far.

The Volkswagen Group sold more than 4 million vehicles in the period from January to July. 4.16 as against to 2009's  3.65, a growth of 13.7 percent. The four million vehicles were delivered to customers during the first seven months of the current year. In July, the Volkswagen Group delivered 572,200 vehicles worldwide. “After a very successful first six months we got off to a good start in the second half of the year. Over the coming months we will continue on our growth path with our model range and will perform better than the competition. However, this will be a challenge, given an operating environment that is again becoming difficult. Now that incentive programs have come to an end, the global automotive market is expected to decline in the second half of the year. There will not be a return to the high pre-crisis levels this year" said Christian Klingler, Group Board Member for Sales.

Volkswagen generated an operating profit and increased its liquidity in the first quarter of fiscal year 2009. The Group’s operating profit amounted to €312 million (€1,311 million). The sale of the Brazilian commercial vehicles business contributed around €600 million to this.
