Toyota’s FT-Bh concept breaks new boundaries in small car efficiency. The Concept will be unveiled at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. It’s as spacious as an average five-door supermini, but produces about 50 per cent less CO2, and tipping the scales at under 800kg, its weighs less than a three-door Aygo. These feats have not been achieved by using exotic materials or expensive techniques: from the outset Toyota determined that the FT-Bh would be made using commonplace, economically viable production methods and technologies, including a down-sized full hybrid powertrain.

After the success of the Prius, Toyota began to focus on hybrid hatchbacks which includes the Yaris. The Yaris hybrid has the new 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine that weighs 16.5kg less and is 10 per cent more compact than the 1.8-litre unit used in Prius and Auris. Likewise, other major components such as the electric motor, power control unit and transaxle were also made lighter and smaller: the size of the motor has been reduced by 20 per cent and thePCU12 per cent, compared to those in Auris Hybrid; and the transaxle has shed 11kg and is six per cent shorter.

The new Toyota GT 86 sales will commence from this June in Europe. Unveiled at last year’s Tokyo motor show, the GT 86 marks a return to the pure enjoyment of driving. Designed to be entirely driver-focused, it offers a classic front-engine, rear-wheel drive set-up in a light, compact and nimble chassis.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor began the year with a robust growth of 89%. The company sold 17,395 units as compared to 9,187 units in January last year.

Toyota Racing announced more details of its forthcoming FIA World Endurance Championship participation, including an intention to race two cars in specific races. The new team, which is based at Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) in Cologne, Germany, will make its race debut on 5 May in the Six Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, the second round of the FIA World Endurance Championship.

BMW Group and Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) announce that they have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) concerning a mid-to-long-term collaboration on next-generation environment-friendly technologies.

Toyota has officially announced the launch of its premium brand Lexus in India. 'We have been watching India with keen interest and we are happy to announce that we will bring Lexus to India in 2013,' confirmed Yukitoshi Funo, Executive Vice President, Toyota Motor Corporation. 

Toyota had unveiled the new-look Avensis at the Frankfurt Motor Show this year, and car has got into production at Toyota's Burnaston factory in Britain. 

Toyota Corolla Altis is at present the best-seller in its segment, and to keep the numbers high, Toyota dealers are offering discounts between Rs 20,000 to Rs 50,000 on the petrol version.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) registered a growth of 63% in the month of October 2011 on Y-o-Y basis as the company sold 10,762 units in October. The company saw a decline of about 16% if M-o-M sales are considered. The increase in sales in Y-o-Y as due to the addition of the Etios and the Etios Liva models, which  are high-volume cars.
