There have been talks of the Safari Merlin since a while and Tata has been working on the facelift version of the Safari. The new Safari project is called Merlin and it will be launched early next year. There is a good possibility of it being unveiled at the Auto Expo.

Tata Motors is upgrading old Tata Nanos which were produced upto mid-September 2011 with a new starter motor to enhance their performance. This is in line with the company’s practice of upgrading its vehicles; on the Nano itself, the company had upgraded the exhaust and the electrical system in November 2011, as was announced then.

The Tata passenger vehicles business reported a total sale and distribution offtake of 28,774 nos. (27,737 Tata + 1037 Fiat) in the domestic market in November 2011, higher by 76% compared to 16,363 nos. (15,340 Tata + 1023 Fiat) in November last year. Sales of Tata passenger vehicles for November 2011 are at 27,737  nos., a growth of 81% over 15,340 nos., sold in November last year. 

The most affordable car just got more affordable as Tata has added more features to the Nano, without increasing its price. The Nano has undergone more cosmetic and mechanical upgrades. The 624cc engine of the Nano now produces 38bhp instead of 35bhp (increase in power by 10%) and 51Nm of torque (earlier 48Nm). The new ARAI claimed mileage for the Nano is now 25.4kmpl instead of 23.6kmpl. The car is being offered with 4 years or 60,000kms warranty.

On one hand Fiat is planning to open exclusive showrooms, separate from the existing Tata-Fiat joint dealerships and on the other, Tata is planning to split its existing dealership network to utility vehicles and passenger cars. 

Tata Motors has been diversifying its portfolio and is also revamping its current line-up. The Pimpri-based automaker had recently introduced the 4x2 version of the Aria and then upgraded the Vista with some sedan-like features. 

Tata Motors launched the Sumo Gold for BS-III and BS-IV cities. The Sumo Gold is powered by a 3.0-litre CR4 engine that churns out 85bhp of power. This engine is for the BS-IV cities. The BS-III cities get the indirect injection of the same engine.  The price of the range starts at Rs 5.23lakhs (ex-showroom, Pune).

Tata Motors had launched their new flagship, the Aria last year. The Aria is the first Indian crossover and was built on ladder frame. Initially, the Aria was offered only as a 4x4, with the option to shift to 4x2 on the fly. 

The Tata Motors Group global wholesales, including Jaguar Land Rover, were 107,258 nos., in September 2011, higher by 24% over September 2010. Cumulative sales for the fiscal are 546,645 higher by 6% compared to the corresponding period in 2010-11.

The Tata Indica eV2 and the Indigo eCS have got a fuel efficiency of 25kmpl under the ARAI cycle. Tata Motors seems to be promoting the mileage of the two cars as one of their strong selling points. Thiscommercial by Tata Motors will go on air on the 1st of October.
