Premier has launched a compact SUV named 'Rio', with a price range of Rs 5.25-6 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune). The Rio is powered by a 1489cc turbodiesel engine developed with Puegeot's TUD5 technology producing a maximum power of 64bhp@4000rpm and 152Nm@2250-3000rpm. The engine fulfills the Bharat Stage III norms and the company claims the fuel efficiency to be 16kpl.

Premier's new mini SUV, christened the RIO, has now been spotted with badging. (See picture) This SUV will be launched on October 28 and seems fairly well finished on the exterior.

Premier will launch a compact SUV on the 28th of October, 2009. This will mark Premier's comeback in the passenger car segment after many years. The last passenger cars which Premier sold in India were the Fiat range  - the Uno and Siena, after which Fiat set up its current base in Ranjangaon and parted from Premier.

Tata Motors-owned Land Rover has launched the Freelander 2 at the Jaguar-Land Rover showroom at Ceejay House in Mumbai. The base version costs Rs 33.8 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai without octroi).

Ford India launched the new design look Endeavour 3.0L with 5-speed automatic transmission. The new Endeavour is available in New Mumbai at  Rs. 18,16,352 for the 3.0L 4X4 automatic transmission and Rs. 16,14,422 for the 2.5L 4X2 manual transmission variant (Ex-Showroom, New Mumbai).

Passenger Vehicles segment during April-August 2009 grew at 11.97 percent over same period last year. Passenger Cars grew by 13.47 percent, Utility Vehicles fell marginally by 0.10 percent and Multi Purpose Vehicles grew by 22.67 percent in this period.

Audi announced the launch of the New Audi Q7. The new Audi Q7 is available in three engine options – 3.0 TDI quattro, 3.6 FSI quattro and 4.2 FSI quattro at Audi dealerships across the country from 3rd September 2009. The new Audi Q7 range starts at (ex-showroom Mumbai) Rs 53,40,000 for the 3.0 TDI quattro, Rs 55,20,000 for the 3.6 FSI quattro and € 42,696 (Rs 29 lakh approximately excluding the duties and taxes) for the 4.2 FSI Quattro. The 4.2 FSI Quattro should cost about Rs 65-70 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai without any accessories).

Audi India has launched its SUV the Q5 beginning at Rs 38.3 lakh. The Q5 will go head-to-head with cars like the BMW X3.

Mitsubishi Motors has launched the '09 edition of their premium SUV, the Montero, at a ceremony in South Mumbai, where they also launched their newest dealership, Autodrome.

General Motors India launched its  Chevrolet Captiva Automatic+ sport utility vehicle today at a function presided over by its President and Managing Director, Mr. Karl Slym.
