Skoda India has launched the 4x2 for the Skoda Yeti. The 4x2 version gets the same 2.0-litre common rail engine, but the power output has been reduced to 110bhp from 140bhp, and even the gearbox has been changed to a 5-speed manual from a 6-speeder. The ARAI claimed mileage for the Yeti 4x2 is 17.72kmpl. 

Skoda launched the Rapid with prices starting at Rs 6.75lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Rapid is the new entry-level sedan for Skoda and is based on the Vento platform and even shares the same underpinnings and engines that power the Vento.

Skoda will launch the Rapid on the 16th of November. The Skoda Rapid shares the platform with the Vento and comes with the same 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines that come on the Vento as well.

Skoda begins the series production of its all-new Citigo small car at its manufacturing facility in Bratislava, Slovakia. After being unveiled in September,  the Citigo will be introduced in Skoda’s home market of the Czech Republic at the end of this year. Initially it will be as a three-door model, with a five-door variant appearing early in 2012. A pan-European roll-out will follow next summer.

Volkswagen Group India maintained its strong market performance in the first nine months of the year, as it registered a growth of 151.4%. The Group sold 81,360 cars from January to September 2011 as compared to 32,359 cars during the same time period last year. “Despite the slowdown of the Indian automobile market, Volkswagen Group brands were able to gain market share in the third quarter. This has been achieved by selling the best quality products, strengthening our position in existing markets and expanding our reach.” said Dr. John Chacko, Volkswagen Group Chief Representative India and President & Managing Director, Volkswagen India Private Limited.

Skoda India began production of its new entry level sedan, the Skoda Rapid at its plant in Chakan, near Pune today. Skoda Rapid is the first car from the Skoda brand which has been designed considering Indian customers and will be exclusively manufactured in India.

SkodaAuto India announced a growth of 12.75% for September ’11 over the same period last year. SkodaAuto India’s total sales for September’11 stood at 1654 units against 1467 units for September ’10. 

We had shared the spy images of the Skoda SK251, which will be Skoda's new entry-level sedan that will compete with the likes of the Volkswagen Vento. We have known the car as Lauretta or Rapid, but Skoda might rename the car as something else. Skoda will unveil and name its new sedan.

The Race of Champions, an event with a history of over 20 years of exciting races of champions across various motorsport disciplines, will see the first appearance by ŠKODA and its Fabia Super 2000s this year. The first weekend of December (3 – 4 Dec, 2011), the best of the best will meet in the Esprit Arena in Düsseldorf, Germany to show their skills on a 600-metre-long circuit, including in a special race for national teams designed to spice up the event programme. ŠKODA will use four Fabia Super 2000s, and its appearance in this unique race is another milestone in the 110-year history of its motorsport efforts.

Citigo is the name of Skoda's new city car and it shares its platform with the new Volkswagen Up, that was showcased at the Fraankfurt Motor Show. The Citigo will be on sale in Czech-Republic by this year end and will enter the other European market by early 2012.  For the Indian car market, the Citigo will be positioned below the currently-sold Fabia.
