After de-licensing of the Automobile industry in 1991, India’s vehicle population has been increasing exponentially. With rapidly increasing vehicle population there is concurrently need for modern facilities for recycling and recovering materials from vehicles, which reach the end of their useful life. In US, Europe and Japan recycling facilities gradually developed along with the organic growth of automobile industry. End of life regulations mandate recyclability levels for new design vehicles in Europe and Japan. As motorcycles form a small proportion of population, they do not come under the ambit of these rules.

Indian Car Market grew by 32.69 percent in 2010

The year 2010 ended on a high for the Automobile Industry in India and the fact that there were more than 50 launches throughout the year in different segments shows the kind of interest car manufacturers are taking into bringing their products in the market. Society of Indian Automobiles (SIAM), in its yearly report mentioned that the Indian car market grew by 32.69 % in 2010.

SIAM Annual Convention 2009

The 49th Annual SIAM Convention got underway in the presence of several industry luminaries as well as senior ministry officials and bureaucrats. 2009 also marks the beginning of SIAM’s golden anniversary celebrations.  The all-day convention has Revival, Restructuring and Sustainable Growth as the Theme was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, the Hon. Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Mr. Vilas Rao Deshmukh in the presence of top executives of both Indian and International automobile and auto ancillary companies.

Automotive Sales: July 2009

Passenger Vehicles segment during April-July 2009 grew at 9.45 percent over same period last year. Passenger Cars grew by 10.54 percent, Utility Vehicles fell by (-) 1.53 percent and Multi Purpose Vehicles grew by 22.90 percent in this period. In July 2009, Passenger vehicles sales recorded a growth rate of 29.18 percent over July 2008.

SIAM's Views on The Budget

Mr Ravi Kant, President, SIAM cited several positive proposals in the Union Budget 2009-10 presented by the Hon’ble Finance Minister of India. These included increased expenditure by National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), enhancement of outlay of Prime Minister’s Gram Sadak Yojana by 59% and further expansion of allocation to JNNURM. These would have significant positive impact on the automobile industry, in the medium to long term.
