The first round of the Polo Cup kicked off today at Coimbatore with two exiting races.

The VW group has published record sales for the first almost. The VW Vento has been very well in India too. VW reported strong growth in India, where 28,100 (7,900; +256.7 percent) vehicles were handed over to their new owners. “Developments in the first quarter were excellent. Growth regions such as China, India or Russia again produced a strong performance. And delivery figures for our innovative and young model range remained high in the mature markets in Western Europe and North America as well,” Group Board member for Sales Christian Klingler said in Wolfsburg on Friday.

The Golden Steering Wheel, Europe’s most coveted automobile awards, celebrated automotive excellence second year in a row in India on the 9th of March. These awards which recognise the best in field of cars, motorcycles as well as products and technology were held by CarWale, India's no. 1 Automotive Portal and Auto Bild India, the only fortnightly automotive magazine in India.

The A1 is Audi's supermini-class car based on the Volkswagen Groups PQ25 platform which is incidentally, the same platform that is used in the VW Polo and the Skoda Fabia. The Audi A1 was launched by the carmaker at the Geneva Motor Show in 2010. The deliveries of the car in Europe started in Christmas last year.

Volkswagen ended the year 2010 with sales of 32, 627 unit vehicles across India. This showed a sales growth of over 974 per cent when compared to the same period last year (January-December 2009 – 3039 units were sold). 5772 unit vehicles were sold in the month of December itself.

Volkswagen announced an increase in the price of the Polo. Starting January 1, 2011 this popular hatchback will witness a hike starting at 2.9 %. Commenting on this, Mr. Neeraj Garg, member of Board & Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Volkswagen Group Sales India Pvt. Ltd. said “We have been faced with constant rise in input cost over the past several months and have tried our best to absorb it.  However, in order to continue to maintain our quality standards that our customers expect from us we have had to increase the price by a small percentage.”

Volkswagen successfully ended the month of November with sales of 4,612 units across India. In fact the Brand has had a successful year till date with sales surging to 26,855 for the period January to November 2010. This effectively shows a growth of over 900 per cent when compared to the same period last year (January-November 2009 -2638 units were sold).

Those familiar with the world of performance tuning in India will know a name like KS Motorsport (Mumbai), who has done many a mean machine in the last few years. Some of the cars prepared by KS Motorsport have won many a closed street racing event. Normally known for turbo-charging and doing up Japanese street machines like the Mitsubishi Lancer, Honda City and many a Suzuki, KS Motorsport has just launched Revo Technik ECU remaps for India. Revo Technik is a British based tuning firm that specialized in ECU remaps for the VAG (Volkswagen Auto Group) range of cars – which includes Audi, Seat, Skoda, Volkswagen and Porsche.

The Volkswagen Group comprising of the three brands- Audi, Skoda and Volkswagen achieved an extraordinary growth in deliveries to customers of 131.9% in the period January to September 2010. The three brands together delivered a total of 32,359 vehicles to customers in the first nine months of 2010 as compared to 13,956 cars sold from January to September 2009.

Parth Ghorpade won the second race of Round 4 of the Volkswagen-JK Tyre Polo Cup India 2010 at the Irungattukottai Race Track, Chennai. Mumbai driver Mohammed Fahad Kutty finished in second position ahead of Imran Majid. Ghorpade completed the race in 3.717 km track in a time 25:13.862 to win his second race of the season. The young driver from Vizag, Sailesh Bolisetti went on to win the first round of the Round 4 of the Volkswagen JK Tyre Polo Cup India.
