Mercedes-Benz India sold 640 units in the month of January 2011. The key growth drivers in January 2011 were the C–Class with 265 units, E-Class with 252 units, the S-Class with 46 units as well as the SUV range comprising the M-Class, GL-Class and the R-Class with 67 units. The German company has always been a favourite among Indians and it shows with the amount of cars the manufacturer sells each month.

The CarWale Team had the unique opportunity to participate in the Mercedes StarDrive event which not only showcased the vehicle's safety, but in the case of the ML and GL, their off-roading capabilities as well. Set up at the Juhu Aerodrome in Mumbai, Mercedes had an avoidance manovure and braking demo with cones on the straightline track for the C & E class and the ML and the GL tackled the custom built side-slopes hill climb and descent ramps, as well as a demo that demonstrated axle articulation and wheel-slip control. This was truly a unique way to showcase the vehicle's capabilities to existing and prospective customers so that they could learn more about the car and what they are truly capable of.

Mercedes-Benz India today flagged of the first of its kind driving experience program in India: the StarDrive, at the capital city. The drive has been organised to highlight the safety features, and engineering technology and offers customers an opportunity to understand handling of critical road situations in a safe and controlled environment.

The luxury SUV segment in India got another competitor with Mercedes-Benz launching the GL 350 CDI Blue Efficiency - equipped with off road pro-engineering package, 7-GTRONIC gearbox, 4Matic permanent all-wheel drive etc.

To tap the growing South Indian luxury car market, Mercedes-Benz today unveiled its array of products to the Kochi car lovers under their theme “Pure Fascination”.
