Lowell Paddock has been appointed as the new President and Managing Director of General Motors India, effective from next year. He will succeed Karl Slym, who moves to GM's largest operations in China as Executive Vice President of SAIC and Wuling Motors, that manufactures mini-commercial vehicles and passenger cars.

General Motors India sold 10,062 units in October 2011 as against 10,051 units during the corresponding period last year. The October 2011 sales were driven by the overwhelming response received by Chevrolet Beat Diesel. Chevrolet Beat has been one of the top performers for GM India this month registering record sales of 5328 units.

General Motors India sold 8329 units in May 2011, compared to 8225 units in May 2010, registering a marginal growth of 1.3%.

After GM India launched the Beat LPG on the 11th of this month, they are all set to launch the Beat Diesel the coming April. Karl Slym, President & Maniging Director, GM India, said, ' The diesel version of the Beat will be launched a couple of months from now and the same technology used in the locally developed Smartech engine, will be used to power the diesel variant. The only thing I would say now that it will be a 1-litre engine.'

The Chevrolet Camaro is one of those muscle cars which appeals to guys and gals alike. Better known for its stint as Bumblebee in the Hollywood flick Transformers, the Chevrolet Camaro oozes confidence, style and an apt amount of sophistication. The budget muscle car was first displayed at the Auto Expo in Delhi in 2010 and the company showed no plans of bringing the car to India.

General Motors India Ltd. will be introducing six new cars in the next two years in India. The company is converting their Halol facility in Gujarat to a commercial vehicle production hub from 85,000units to 1Lakh units, and are shifting all car production to Talegaon. These six new launches will come in a total of 14 fuel variants, which means that General Motors is betting big on diesel and alternate fuel for their new products. We can look forward to the Beat LPG and the  Diesel this year.

General Motors India registered a growth of 18% in sales in November 2010, compared to the corresponding period last year. It sold 8376 units in November 2010 against 7118 units sold in November, 2009.  The November 2010 sales comprised 2786 units of the Chevrolet Spark, 2547 units of Chevrolet Beat, 1476 units of the Chevrolet Tavera, 617 units of the Chevrolet Cruze, 297 Units of Chevrolet Aveo, 291 units of Chevrolet Aveo U-VA, 262 units of Chevrolet Optra and 100 units of the Chevrolet Captiva.

Balendran (Vice President) of General Motors India Ltd., we have learnt that General Motors will launch the much awaited Beat LPG in January 2011. The production lines are all geared up to produce this rather awaited small dual-fuel car and consumers who are keen on a Chevrolet small car but are keeping a close eye on running costs, can choose between the smaller Spark LPG or the newer and trendier Beat LPG. Chevrolet has really turned things around for the better with their 3 Year Chevrolet Promise which offers zero-headache maintenance for the Chevrolet small car range.

General Motors India today launched 2 new showrooms and 4 new workshops in Mumbai. With this, GM now has 8 showrooms and 9 workshops in the city and 26 showrooms and 27 workshops in the state of Maharashtra, taking the overall tally to 214 Sales Points and 208 Service outlets across the country.

General Motors, today inaugurated its engine plant in Talegaon in the presence of Mr. Vilasrao Deshmukh, Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises. At present, work for the first phase of the plant is over. Now, the plant has the capacity of producing 1.6 lakh engine units.
