Fiat is on the progress path in India and one more step taken by the company is its effort to increase localisation. At the start of production the company had achieved 55% localisation & within a short span of four months it has been able to increase it by 10%. Linea s now manufactured with a total localisation of 65%.

Fiat will launch its Grande Punto by mid-2009. The Punto is ready for production but the company has kept its plans on hold to increase its dealer network to handle the large numbers.

It’s difficult to miss a car like the Grande Punto even if you happen not to be a die-hard Fiat fan. This means that the Punto is roomy on the inside and the beige interiors certainly help give the interiors a pleasant and airy ambience.

The Fiat 500C will be presented at the next Geneva Motor show, before its launch throughout Europe this spring. Featuring a soft top, the new 500C is the same size as the basic model (3.55 m x 1.65 m x 1.49 m) and has identical powerplants: the 1.3 litre 75bhp Multijet Turbodiesel coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission and the two 1.2 litre 69bhp and 1.4 litre 100bhp gasoline engines, available with either manual or Dualogic transmissions.

The Fiat Group will take up 35% stake in Chrysler as a deal between the two automotive manufacturers. The two companies announced on Tuesday that the duo have signed the “non-binding term sheet to establish a global strategic alliance.”

Silverio Bonfiglioli, chief operating officer, Fiat Group disclosed that Fiat India plans to make India its hub for exports to various countries, including those in Europe.
