Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) registered a growth of 63% in the month of October 2011 on Y-o-Y basis as the company sold 10,762 units in October. The company saw a decline of about 16% if M-o-M sales are considered. The increase in sales in Y-o-Y as due to the addition of the Etios and the Etios Liva models, which  are high-volume cars.

Toyota’s Etios, which began its Indian innings with a bang, seems to have lost a bit of that initial lustre. And it’s mostly true for the petrol powered version.

The Etios is Toyota’s first offering in the entry level sedan category in India and has so far been successful in its initial few months. It is a practical car with acres of space, good fuel efficiency and of course the Toyota badge, which is quite aspirational in our country.  At the launch of the Etios in December 2010, Toyota had announced that it would launch diesel version too. Now, with the festive season just around the corner and petrol prices reaching for the stars, the Japanese manufacturer has jumped into the entry level diesel sedan market with the diesel Etios.

We review the diesel versions of the Toyota Etios and the Etios Liva that will be launched on the 9th of September. The Etios and Etios Liva both get the same 1.4-litre engine that churns out 68bhp of power and 170Nm of torque. This is the same D-4D engine that does duty even on the Corolla Altis.

After the launch of the Etios Liva this year, Toyota Motors will now launch the diesel version of the Etios and the hatchback Etios Liva on the 9th of September. 

Mary Kay’s annual India Seminar today served as the backdrop of a spectacular unveiling when hundreds of Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultants – expecting perhaps to see a new model of the coveted pink Cadillac – were astonished to see a brand new sedan, Toyota Etios as award. The exhilarated crowd demonstrated their approval of the new family member with roaring cheers and applause. The stylish Toyota Etios joins her iconic sister, the pink Cadillac, as another symbol of status and achievement of the Mary Kay independent sales force.

Toyota announced that the much awaited Etios Liva will be launched on the 27th of June in Delhi. The company had earlier deferred the launch of the Etios Liva from April to June. 

Toyota Kirloskar Motor registered sales of 7470 units in May 2011. The company sales grew by 24% when compared to the corresponding period last year. Etios sold 3412 units in May 2011.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor announced that it is taking active steps to bring down the waiting period for the Etios to half of the current situation. This will be realized through various steps including starting of second shift production, changes to takt time (production time per vehicle), production enhancement and postponement of the launch of Hatchback - Etios Liva from April to June - all reflecting the increasing demand for the Etios. Further details will be announced shortly. 

Toyota Kirloskar Motors launched the Etios (read road test) in December 2010 and at the same time unveiled the Liva, its hatchback. The Etios which was priced at 4.96 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) certainly got its fair share of attention and now the company plans to bring the its Liva into the Indian market in April.
