The Chevrolet Beat diesel comes with a three-pot engine that displaces 936cc churning 58.5bhp of power and 150nm of torque. Most of the equipment on the Beat diesel remains the same except for the fact that it will be the first Chevrolet in India to get electronic power steering. Toyota had launched the Etios Liva, its first hatchback for the Indian car market. The prices commence at Rs 3.99lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Liva at present will be available with a 1.2-litre petrol engine which will produce 80bhp of power. General Motors India today showcased the Chevrolet Beat Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) as part of the ongoing celebrations of World Environment Day. The demonstration vehicle will be used by GM India to showcase the effectiveness of battery electric vehicle technology in India.  GM India engineers will also use the vehicle to address potential cost savings to help make BEVs more affordable for global customers.  

John Paul Xavier from Industrial Design Centre at IIT Mumbai won General Motors India’s ‘Design the next Chevrolet Contest’.Sachin Panchal from DSK International School of Design in Pune was declared the first runner-up of the contest.Students from various engineering colleges and institutes across the country participated in the contest. Around 1000 entries were received and 40 were shortlisted.

After GM India launched the Beat LPG on the 11th of this month, they are all set to launch the Beat Diesel the coming April. Karl Slym, President & Maniging Director, GM India, said, ' The diesel version of the Beat will be launched a couple of months from now and the same technology used in the locally developed Smartech engine, will be used to power the diesel variant. The only thing I would say now that it will be a 1-litre engine.'

The Chevrolet Beat LPG will launched on the 11th of February. Beside the company's Smartech engine, the all new Beat LPG will come with Advanced Multipoint Sequential LPG Injection Technology type kit as compared to the Venturi-type kit currently in use. The advanced LPG kit ensures a hassle-free transition from petrol to LPG and back.

The Beat LPG will be launched soon and it will be the recipient of General Motors' new locally designed and developed Smartech engine. The LPG Beat comes with Advanced Multipoint Sequential LPG Injection Technology type kit as compared to the Venturi-type kit currently in use. This new version is aimed to overlap the limitations of the Venturi kit like no power loss, no jerks and backfires which means smoother hassle-free transition from petrol to LPG and back and loss of cabin space because of the LPG kit.

General Motors India has registered a growth of 6% in sales in January 2011, compared to the corresponding period last year. It sold 9984 units in January 2011 against 9421 units in January 2010. Second to Ford India in terms of sales the company will definitely be all charged up to hit the 10,000 mark in the coming months.
