Mercedes GLA is BMW X1 rival, luxury car manufacturers are feeling the heat, Renault-Nissan to buy controlling stake in Lada manufacturer, and next Impreza WRX might get electric turbo.

With 500 cars delivered to customers in January 2011, BMW India has achieved leadership position in the luxury car segment in India in the begining of the year. There were 15 BMW X1's that were delivered in India and the demand of the car is certainly on a high.

The A1 is Audi's supermini-class car based on the Volkswagen Groups PQ25 platform which is incidentally, the same platform that is used in the VW Polo and the Skoda Fabia. The Audi A1 was launched by the carmaker at the Geneva Motor Show in 2010. The deliveries of the car in Europe started in Christmas last year.

BMW India surpassed the likes of Mercedes-Benz and Audi by delivering 6246 cars in the year 2010. The total BMW India sales in 2010 grew by 73% over last year. The BMW 3 Series sales registered a growth of over 111%, the new BMW 5 Series of 51% and the BMW 7 Series of 53%.

BMW launched their cheapest car yet in India, the BMW X1. BMW's SUV is priced at at Rs 22 lakhs - Rs 29.9 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). The company will assemble the X1 from its Chennai plant. As we said, the car will come in petrol and diesel variants (read post here). While the petrol option, BMW X1 sDrive 18i, will be available for Rs 22 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the diesel variant will have two options, X1 sDrive 20d and will be priced at Rs 23.9 lakh and X1 sDrive 20d Exclusive priced at Rs 29.9 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), respectively.

BMW will be launching their smallest SUV, the X1, in India on the 24th of this month. The BMW X1 is based on the 3-series platform and will be a CKD and will be assembled in BMW’s Chennai plant. We speculate that the X1 will come in three variants; one petrol and two diesel options.  Our cameras did not stop clicking as we saw an X1 do the rounds of Mumbai.

BMW India plans to launch its Mini brand in India by the end of 2009. The new Mini cooper was launched across the globe a few days back.
