We suspect that the all-new Palio will come with new interiors and will boast of a 1.3-litre engine and will abide by the BS-IV norms. The price of the car is not yet confirmed but we expect it to remain the same Rs 3.45-5 lakhs. The car is expected to hit the market by the end of this year.

The guest list consisted of Fiat enthusiasts and owners of Fiat cars. Around 125 people made their way early morning to Pune after which the convoy of enthusiasts which included Rajeev Kapoor, President and CEO, Fiat India Automobiles, headed off to Fiat’s Ranjangaon plant. 

]]>Fiat India Automobiles Ltd. welcomed a host of guests from around the country as they gathered in Pune to drive down their favourite Fiat cars to the Fiat factory in Ranjangaon. 60 Fiat cars came together from cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Trivandrum and Pune. The guest list consisted of Fiat enthusiasts and owners of Fiat cars. Around 125 people made their way early morning to Pune after which the convoy of enthusiasts which included Rajeev Kapoor, President and CEO, Fiat India Automobiles, headed off to Fiat’s Ranjangaon plant. 

Rajeev Kapoor addressed the occasion by saying, “We at Fiat, are extremely happy to see all the Fiat fans come together and it is our pleasure to be a part of this occasion. The turn out today reflects the love and trust Fiat commands and we hope that this continues.” Families of owners also were a part of this gathering-cum-drive and they enjoyed themselves as they saw the cars lining up at the meeting place.

Once done with breakfast all the car owners lined up their cars for the ceremonial flag off. The cars vroomed out of the parking bay and headed towards the exit. This meet presented the owners and the on-lookers with a great chance to watch the old and the brand new Fiat cars rubbing shoulders with one another. Fiat cars like the Palio, the Grande Punto, the Punto 90 hp, the Linea and the all new Linea T-jet.  Even a young lad who came along with his father could not resist admiring the Linea as it got out of the parking.

Modifications on the car attracted a lot of attention and the incoming of a Grande Punto 90 hp sports drew a large chunk of the crowd present there. The shutters went click !click! as it rolled in and out of the meeting place. While the sunroof on the sports got its fair share of attention, the boom! boom! of an audio system in yet another Punto which was enough to grab the attention of everyone around.

Rajeev Kapoor along with Marius Dlima and Ravi Bhatia flagged off the cars as they made their way to the Fiat factory in Ranjangaon. Each driver was given a thumbs up as they rolled out of the hotel and a distinct ‘drive safely’ instruction was heard as Rajeev Kapoor saw the cars leave. The experience of a lifetime awaits these 125 people as they make their way to the facility and knowing how their cars are made only doubles their faith in the company. Fiat does enjoy a huge fan following and it could be seen by the turn out at the event.  It can be thus concluded that when it comes to Fiat cars admiration is guaranteed.

Speaking on the occassion, Mr. Gurpratap Boparai, Vice President – Power Train Technologies, Fiat India Automobiles Ltd said, “The state-of-the-art TATA-FIAT manufacturing facility epitomizes our commitment towards bringing cutting edge technology to India. The remarkable figure of 200000 engines in a short span of time is a testament to the commitment of both the partners and to the tireless efforts of the team which has worked to make this a world-class facility”.

The Ranjangaon plant has also produced 110000 car units which include both TATA and FIAT branded cars. Cars manufactured under TATA are Indica and Indigo Manza and FIAT brand includes Palio, Punto and Linea.

]]>Fiat India Private Limited (FIAL) is conducting a multijet drive across India, covering more than 10,000km. All four Fiat cars sold in India (the Palio, Linea, Grande Punto and the 500) are a part of this drive with an additional Grande Punto as a support car. The drive was flagged off last week from the Ranjangaon plant, and the convoy headed towards Bengaluru via Chiplun and Goa. CarWale joined the drive at Bengaluru.

We headed from Bengaluru to Coimbatore passing Hosur on the way, and from Coimbatore to Munnar to Cochin. The drive was through some well maintained Karnataka highways to some good and bad Tamil Nadu state highways as well as some great Kerala roads, not to forget the beautiful scenery which can be seen in the pictures.

The drive has been conducted to focus on the reliability of the 1.3-litre multijet engines which powers all models from the current Fiat range in India. The so-called underpowered engines (critics) will get the answer once they drive these Italian blocks on the highways. All the multijets from the Fiat 500 to the Fiat Linea were clocking and maintaining 3-digit figures on the dash and we could cover good distances whenever required.

On our first day of the drive, we faced two back-to-back punctures due to a couple of large stones on the road. Our car was lucky enough to escape punctures or any damage to the tyres, although it was sandwiched between the two cars which got punctured.

The second day’s drive was through tea gardens to Munnar. The temperature on the hilltop was close to 15deg Celsius and the visibility was fairly low due to fog. We had a late lunch in Munnar and we headed to Cochin which was our stop for the next day. The Fiat powerplants responded every time we flexed our right feet and lived up to our expectations. Accompanied with the great handling of the Fiats, driving along single-lane roads and hills was thrilling yet easy.

CarWale left the Multijet drive on Sunday night in Cochin with a heavy heart – the cars that handled and rode well at high speeds, the reliable engines and the lovely roads and scenery gave us the Monday morning blues while writing this piece at our desk. How about a petrol drive next, Fiat? We’d love to sample the Palio 1.6 on the same roads!
