Korean auto-major Hyundai has showcased the all new Santa Fe in New York, surprising the world audience by exhibiting the Sport along with the existing Santa Fe. With the solid Fluidic design style, engine options and some interesting tech, Hyundai has managed to pull a fast one over its competitors.

The two-row, five-seater Sport base model has a 2.4 litre inline-four churning 190 bhp while the 2.0 litre turbocharged version delivers around 265 horses. The three-row seven-seater houses a powerful 3.3 litre DI V6 transmitting 290 horses to the wheels. Transmission options are limited to the in-house 6-speed automatic while all engines can be mated to the optional All Wheel Drive. 

The top end Santa Fe comes with the Torque-Vectoring cornering control system, the technology that Hyundai thinks would set the Santa Fe apart from the competition. While the enthusiast buyer would prefer the Sport, the average demographic customer looking for a spacious comfortable ride with family would go for seven seater. The wheelbase is extended over the Sport to create about 38 cu.m. of extra space for the third row. New and updated interiors with latest Stability and Navigation functions make this car truly modern.

Hyundai will be looking forward to get the Fluidic Santa Fe to India as soon as possible after the warm welcome to the existing Santa Fe and the runaway success of the Fluidic models like the i10 and the Verna.

The much awaited new model of the SUV Pajero will be launched in the first quarter of year 2012. Making this announcement, Mr. Manoj Jha, Managing Director of Hindustan Motors Limited, which manufactures and markets Mitsubishi Motors Corporation’s Pajero and other vehicles also in India, stated here today, “We had decided to launch Pajero as well as new variants from the HM stable at the Auto Expo 2012 in New Delhi. However, some dislocation of operations at Mitsubishi Motors’ Thailand facility due to natural calamity and unexpected events compelled us to alter our plans for participation in the auto show.”

 

“One of our passenger carrier variants is expected to get approval from Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) soon. Other commercial variants built on the Ambassador platform are also in the pipeline. Market research is being conducted across different states to elicit customer feedback on the new products. The rescheduled launch of Pajero and HM stable vehicles will start from the first quarter of the coming year (2012) with appropriate publicity,” Mr. Jha added.

More than two dozen owners of Mitsubishi Pajeros participated in the Pajero Heart-in-Mouth (HIM) rally in Vadodara. The adventurous and adrenaline-charged sports utility vehicle (SUV) event came on the heels of similar rallies organized very successfully in Ludhiana and Delhi recently. HIM rallies will be held in Pune, Bengaluru and Coimbatore in the coming months.

The rally was organised to provide owners of the Mitsubishi Pajero an opportunity to explore and experience the outstanding off-roading capabilities of the iconic SUV which has the unique distinction of having won the Dakar Rally, world’s toughest car driving competition, as many as 13 times.

A large number of Mitsubishi Pajero owners and SUV fans from in and around Vadodara and Ahmedabad gathered here to expose their mean machines to the challenge of extremely tough driving conditions. As many as 25 Pajeros and five Mitsubishi Monteros formed part of the rally which was flagged off from The Gateway Hotel, Akota, at 12.00 p.m. by Mr. Yoshiaki Wada, HM-Mitsubishi’s Head of Marketing and Channel Development. 

The Pajero HIM rally participants experienced 45 kms of intense off-road and highly challenging driving conditions through rugged terrains including dirt roads, mud and slush patches, up-hill and downhill gradients etc. The rally started from Akota and passed through R C Dutt Road, Bird Circle, Gotri Road and Sevasi to reach the ravines of river Mahi in Jaspur. The return route was via Bhayli.

A large number of Mitsubishi Pajero owners and SUV aficionados from in and around the NCR gathered here to expose their mean machines to the challenge of extremely tough driving conditions. Over 40 Pajeros and a dozen Mitsubishi Monteros formed part of the rally which was flagged off from Tivoli Garden, Chhattarpur Hills, Mehrauli, here at 9.00 a.m.
 
The participants experienced 42 kms of intense off-road and extreme driving conditions through rocky and rugged terrains including dirt roads, mud, slush, up-hill and downhill gradients etc. Some of the prominent landmarks along the Pajero rally route were Gurgaon-Faridabad-Sohna Axis, crusher zone, Mohtabad village etc.
 
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Yoshiaki Wada, HM-Mitsubishi’s Head-Marketing and Channel Development, said, “Pajero has attained a cult status across the world with its owners forming Pajero clubs and groups in large numbers. The whole idea behind organizing the Pajero Heart-in-Mouth rally is to bring together the lovers of this incredible vehicle on a common platform where they may bond and share their Pajero experiences.
 
“Delhi is an important market for us and we have a strong customer base for Pajero here. Expectedly, the turn-out was highly encouraging. We will organize similar rallies in Vadodara, Pune, Coimbatore and Bengaluru in the coming months.”
   
The Heart-in-Mouth rally, which is approved by Federation of Motor Sports Club of India (FMSCI), has Cougar Motorsport as its off-roading partner which  managed today’s entire rally from doing the advance reconnaissance run to planning the route, briefing customers about the drive, providing support with expert drivers, to assisting with back-up vehicles etc.

The new-for-2009 Montero sports a 3.2-litre common-rail engine that develops 164bhp, and comes fully loaded with all the electronics that made it such a success in rallying. It is nice to see an SUV's brochure state breakover angle and wading depth along with features such as an 850W Rockford-Fosgate audio system.

The Autodrome, situated in Atria Mall, Worli, Mumbai, is a company-owned showroom that will display Mitsubishi's premium products but will sell all of their brands, right down to the Lancer. The Montero is available for Rs 41.94 lakh, ex-showroom, all over the country.
