Surprisingly, the Chevrolet Optra and the Skoda Fabia were the dark horses of 2011. Chevrolet sold a total of 1824 units in 2010 of the Optra and a surprising 3044 units in 2011. On the other hand, Skoda had facelifted the Fabia in 2010. The number of Fabias sold in 2011 were a shocking 16,966 units compared to 8,965 units that were sold in 2010.

It sold 10051 units in October 2010 against 7413 units in October 2009. The October 2010 sales comprised 3251 units of the Chevrolet Spark, 3021 units of Chevrolet Beat, 1594 units of the Chevrolet Tavera, 957 units of the Chevrolet Cruze, 405 Units of Chevrolet Aveo, 328 units of Chevrolet Aveo U-VA, 333 units of Chevrolet Optra and 162 units of the Chevrolet Captiva.

The increase in the sales was primarily driven by the response to Chevrolet Cruze, Beat and Spark. Commenting on the performance, Mr. P. Balendran, Vice President, GM India said, "We are excited by the continued overwhelming response to Chevrolet Cruze, Beat and Spark.  Introduction of best-in-segment cars from the 300 series, increase in customer outreach through distribution network, our unique value proposition like Chevrolet Cashless Ownership offer and our promise to deliver quality and performance are the factors that have led to the impressive sales."

Chevrolet Spark continues to register impressive sales, clearly validating it as the one of the most sought after car in its segment in terms of styling, performance and fuel efficiency offering a value for money proposition. Other car lines have also registered impressive growth during the month.

It sold 11,330 units in March 2010 against 5,001 units in March last year recording an all time high in monthly sales. The company has sold 31,862 units in Q1 of 2010 as against 13,859 units in Q1 of 2009, achieving a growth of 130%.

The March, 2010 sales comprise of 4508 units of Chevrolet Beat, 3266 units of Chevrolet Spark, 1654 units of Chevrolet Tavera, 715 units of Chevrolet Cruze, 454 units of Chevrolet Aveo U-VA, 419 units of Chevrolet Aveo, 179 units of Chevrolet Captiva and 135 units of Chevrolet Optra.

The growth was primarily driven by the much sought after Chevrolet Beat and the Spark. The Chevrolet Beat launched recently has become the industry benchmark and a winner among consumers in India, with its best-in-segment design, performance and other product attributes. Other car lines have also registered impressive growth during the month. The Chevrolet Spark continues to record impressive growth in sales and it has emerged as the most sought after mini car in its segment in terms of styling, performance, fuel efficiency, value for money proposition and other product attributes.

Commenting on the performance, P Balendran, vice-president, GM India said, “Introduction of best-in-segment cars from the 300 series, increase in customer outreach through distribution network, our unique value proposition like Chevrolet Cashless Ownership offer and our promise to deliver quality and performance are the factors that have led the impressive sales. It may be recalled that the company has ramped up production by adding the second shifts at Halo and Talegaon plants recently to meet the increased demand of its products. The company is also rapidly expanding its sales and service network to support the market demand of its cars. It intends to take the network to 300 sales points and an equal number of authorized service outlets by the end of this year from the current 206 sales points and 200 authorised service outlets across the country.

The September 2009 sales comprise of 4,706 units of the Chevrolet Spark, 1,329 units of the Chevrolet Tavera, 753 units of Aveo U-VA, 424 units of Aveo, 319 units of Chevrolet Optra and 123 units of the Chevrolet Captiva. The Chevrolet Spark has registered the highest sales ever since the introduction of the car to the Indian market registering a growth of 128% compared to the corresponding period last year.
