  • Car sales have taken a hit in the simmering summer heat as Maruti Suzuki sales drop 4 percent, Ford drops 14 per cent while Gemenral Motors India loose 27 per cent year on year.
  • Despite the slow numbers of car sales in this financial quarter, companies like Nissan, Mahindra and Audi have grown 98 per cent, 28 per cent and 10 per cent if the sales figures of May 2011 are considered.
  • The Nissan success story is driven by the Sunny and Micra. The two models sold 3138 units together as compared to Nissan sales of 1588  units in May 2011.
  • Ford's facelifted Figo was spotted testing by people in Chennai. Prima facie the headlamp-taillamp design has changed along with minor changes in the bodywork.
  • Keshub Mahindra, founder of Mahindra conglomerate, will retire as the chairman and the Managing Director of M&M Ltd to be the chairman emeritus of the Rs 35000 crore group of companies from August 2012. The company has already chosen Mr. Anand Mahindra as the new leader of the business house.
  • Toyota is still not come to a decision over diesel engine production plant in India. They expect the government to deregulate diesel soon so that they can work around their forte, small petrol engine cars.
  • Rendered pictures and some details of the new XC90 from Volvo have surfaced on the Internet. The new XC looks stunning and will be built over the Scalable platform architecture (SPA) which will be the base for future XC60, S60 and S80 models.
  • We had mentioned about Jaguar's 3-series rival some time back. The rendered images of the concept can now be viewed on the internet. The striking baby XF would certainly give the Germans a nice chase.
  • For all those who saw at the low slung and fat track i20 and said 'Hmmm, that would make a good rally car!', Hyundai is planning to come back to the World rallying riding a special WRC spec i20. we expect that at least now Hyundai will get cues about how to make a comfortable and capable car talk to the driver.
  • Mclaren MP4-12C will be available in its convertible avatar. Though Mclaren has not named it yet, they are making a three-piece folding hardtop roof that will trick its entry between the seats and the engine before you know it. Developed in conjunction with Webasto, the convertible is sure to nick some names of the future waiting lists of the Gallardos, 911s, 458s or DBSs for sure.

  • The fourth quarter net profit of Tata Motors is expected to increase 47 per cent year on year to amount Rs 3880 crore. The net profit in consideration is for the consolidated Tata Motors accounts that includes Jaguar and Land Rover and its Chinese joint venture. Though the domestic (India) sales of Tata Motors are showing very slow growth, the JLR sales fueled by the runaway hit, Evoque, along with the favorable rupee value have contributed towards the numbers.
  • Tata Motors have also signed an agreement with AGI, Myanmar to supply both passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles to the Asian country. Tata Motors is looking forward to diversify into new markets to balance the markets fluctuations.
  • Maruti Suzuki and Ford are mulling even smaller engines with better efficiency figures to counter the rising fuel costs in the Indian sub-continent. This would help keeping the emission figures below the required standards and help them achieve the 2015 fuel efficiency targets set by the government of India.
  • The government has denied diesel costs increase for the time being but a tax hike on diesel cars seems more likely. The diesel cars will become even more expensive as the auto manufacturers are already pricing diesel cars at a good premium over their petrol versions.
  • Volkswagen is studying the market feasibility of its global hit Up! for the Indian market while its sibling, the Skoda Citigo has already set a target for its sales in India. Skoda's product marketing manager Chris Horrell said that given the sales volumes of hatchbacks and competitor numbers, the Citigo should sell around 8000 units at least annually.
  • Anand Mahindra has tweeted that the Reva NXR will be launched in India before the end of this year. The Reva NXR launch is expected to be announced right after the government policy announcement on subsidy for electric cars.
  • The India bound Ford EcoSport has started testing in Brazil where it is headed first.  The EcoSport will be launched in Africa and China before its India launch in 2013.
  • BMW will launch the new 7 series in the UK starting at GBP 58,115 (Rs 50.5 lakh without taxes).
  • Porsche has unveiled a limited edition 911 Club Coupe to celebrate 60 years of the first Porsche clubs (two of them) that were started in 1952. Based on the 911 Carrera, the car develops 430Bhp and does a 0-100 kmph sprint in 4 seconds. Only 13 cars will be made of which only 12 will be sold to lucky applicants whose names will be drawn out of the application list. The brewster green car with expresso interiors will have each owner's name engraved on the door sill and will be sold at $175,580 (approx Rs 96 lakh) before taxes.
  • Skoda has released teaser pictures of the new European Rapid, Skoda's affordable sedan for the EU, before its unveiling at the Paris Motor Show. Showing off its design cues, Skoda is generating a build up ahead of its launch.
  • Proton has announced that it will not sell the troubled Lotus after the CEO of Lotus, Dany Bahar was suspended last week. Proton is looking forward to revive the Lotus group of companies with help from the British government.

    • Porsches will now be officially imported in to India by Volkswagen Group Sales Pvt. Ltd. As per the new contract, with immediate effect. Precision Cars had been the official importer of Porsches till date.

    • Audi is gearing up for the launch of the new revamped A4 sedan early next month. The new car complies with the design ideology of the new A6 and A8. Audi plans to pip the BMW by launching just ahead of the up-coming new 3-series.

    • Ssangyong, recently taken over by M&M, continues testing the Rexton in India. The Mercedes ML 270 based compact SUV would be pitched above the XUV in the Indian market.

    • Maruti's net profit went down in the first quarter of 2012. There was a 28per cent dip in profits despite 17 per cent increase in sales.
    • Skoda India launches the "You drink, we drive" program as a part of its Corporate Social Responsibility program. Skoda will provide chauffeurs on request to its customers.

    • For the Ferrari lovers; the Enzo Ferrari museum has opened at the very estate where the iconic sports car racer and maker was born in Modena, Italy. Built with an investment of 18 million Euros, the state of art museum will be a Ferrari paradise.

    • Chrysler group essays a comeback story. After being almost bankrupt in 2008, the first quarter profits have grown four-fold from $116 million in 2011 to $473 million in 2012.

    • BMWs Olympics fleet revealed. BMW will supply about 3000 cars for the event.

    • For those who could not have a glimpse of the stunning one-off Aventador J in Geneva, Lamborghini has released a video of the roadster.
