They say it would also help recovery of the Rupee against the Dollar which will in turn help reducing crude import costs and petrol prices and bring a balance to market and economy.

As the rupee has slightly recovered to below 56 rupees to a dollar, and international crude prices looking at a down turn, the petrol price hike may be rolled back by a small amount. The political parties allied to the government and also opposition parties have asked the government to roll back the price hike. We hope the petrol heads will get a small breather for the time .

Honda Siel, the rich man's car manufacturer in India, is finally moving over to diesel and is expected to launch diesel cars, early 2013. After sticking with petrol till date, Honda has lost a lot of market share to diesels and will look to regain its sales figures.

As the aftermath of petrol price hike continues, companies like Tata, Hyundai, Maruti are offering discounts up to Rs 50,000 on petrol cars. We say, if you can, buy now, because petrol prices are not going to go down ever and diesel has to be deregulated soon.

Nissan Micra will get its mid-life facelift soon as it has completed almost four years after its launch in 2008. The new car comes with revised bumpers, headlights, front grille, outside rear view mirrors. The car is 5.5 inches longer and 8 mm lower than its predecessor with redesigned front seats, new 1200watt Bang and Olufsen audio system with the standard variants. It will also be available in Hybrid.

A new Aston Martin codenamed AM310 was seen flying at the Nurburgring. With new lines and looks, the AM310 may be a replacement of the DB9 or DBS or both.

Porsche tuner Gemballa has come up with a Diamond only finish as an ultra exclusive customising option. They will grind the diamonds to a size small enough to be applied like paint. Till date, diamond finishes were achieved by using metal pigments and glass crystals. We feel that the first of these cars would certainly make their way to one of the Gulf nations.

The CarWale Daily Fuel is your quick daily dose of automotive news from India and around the world. One in every six cars sold in India is an automatic now.

<cw:content>
Automatic cars, known for effortless driving, are gaining popularity among urban buyers. Earlier, the majority of the customers opting for automatic cars were luxury car or SUV buyers. The automotive industry saw a positive trend of people opting for automatic transmissions even in cars like the Hyundai i10 and i20, Maruti A-star and Dzire, Honda City and Volkswagen Vento. Around 20 per cent of customers who traditionally preferred manual gearboxes are now opting for automatics. The shift in favour of automatics is gradual but clear.

Automatic transmission cars have only two pedals, brake and throttle, and the lack of impending gear changes reduces driving stress or effort by 60 per cent. Congested city roads and heavy traffic can be nearly stress-free when driving an automatic. Rising traffic density and the stop-and-go commuting is affecting customer choice.

Maruti Suzuki was the pioneer for the small car automatic option it had launched for M800 in 1987. Now, it offers automatic gearboxes in the Dzire and A-star at the 'budget' end of its range. Honda, one of the first companies to launch an automatic sedan, Honda City, is witnessing a huge rise in demand for automatics. The automatic share in City sales is about 21 per cent ; for the Civic it is 32 per cent whereas it is above 60 per cent in premium offerings like the Accord and the CR-V.

The automatic revolution was ushered into India by BMW and Audi, who launched only automatic cars in India. They say that these cars are mostly chauffeur driven and automatics are more comfortable and smooth compared to manuals.

With automatic sales picking up, the price difference between the two transmissions has narrowed. The latest advancements in the automatic transmission technology has improved efficiencies and has helped companies to convince customers to look at automatics as a viable option. Ford even offers a 240,000km/10-year warranty on its Fiesta's automatic gearbox, along with fuel efficiency that nearly matches the manual's figures. With this sort of confidence, it isn't hard to imagine more and more consumers making the automatic choice.

</cw:content>

<cw:id>8881</cw:id>
The CarWale Daily Fuel – April 27, 2012

<cw:author>CarWale Team</cw:author><cw:displayDate>4/27/2012 11:08:00 AM</cw:displayDate><cw:views>687</cw:views><cw:thumbImg>http://img.carwale.com/ec/8881/img/m/8881_m</cw:thumbImg><cw:largeImg>http://img.carwale.com/ec/8881/img/m/8881_l</cw:largeImg>

Lamborghini opens its showroom in Mumbai, Aston DBS gets upgraded, Bugatti releases an absurd 16C Galibier teaser while the next gen Corolla is taking shape in Japan.

<cw:content>

Maruti, Hyundai, Volkswagen and Honda are happily surprised to see a surge in demand for automatic cars in India.
