The Skoda Laura RS is a performance version of the standard Laura sedan. It uses the same 1.8-litre petrol mill from the sedan. This engine produces 158PS and 250Nm of torque and is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. The car features a sporty design on the body as well as modifications to the underpinnings to give a sportier handling. 

The Fabia Scout is more rugged version of the Fabia hatchback. It features larger wheels and body cladding on the side to it a more rugged appeal. The rest of the car is pretty much the same as the standard model and this includes 1.2-litre diesel mill that produces 75PS and 180Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox. 

There have been reports on the internet that the Fabia may be discontinued for the Indian market and the removal of the Scout from the official website maybe a step in this regard. The Laura RS is quite popular amount car enthusiasts and its possible discontinuation is likely to have many of them going up in arms. 

However, Skoda is expected to launch the 2013 Octavia sedan for the Indian market later this year. The car was unveiled last year in October and is already on sale across  many European markets.  An undisguised car has been spied testing quite a few times in and around Pune and is expected to replace Laura range. The new Octavia will also spawn a vRS version that will be unveiled at the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed at England in July. We can expect this car to arrive in the Indian market in early 2014. 

It is believed that Skoda will continue to sell the car till they run out of stock in a bid to clear their inventory before discontinuing the car. The company had been offering heavy discounts previously to increase the demand for the car but the sales never picked up.

Instead, the car’s price tag went down by almost 40 per cent since its launch in 2008. Skoda sold a total of 3343 units in the period 2012-2013 and managed to sell just 115 units of the Fabia last month.

The Fabia Scout has been launched by Skoda in the Indian market, adding to the existing Fabia line-up. The top-spec Fabia sports projector headlamps, new front and rear bumpers, spoiler, protective cladding and stainless steel pedal set to give it a sporty touch.

 The Fabia will run on the same 1.2 litre 75PS petrol and diesel engines mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Scout visually differentiates itself from the other siblings but does not have any special off-roading or other capabilities as its international counterpart. The Scout was expected with revised suspension, off-road capabilities and the 1.6 litre 106PS petrol engine.

 The price tag of 6.79 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the petrol variant seems a bit high for the package on offer. Nonetheless, the Fabia will ensure good economy and build quality along with the dual airbags, integrated-audio system and tinted windows as standard fitment.
