Mercedes-Benz has launched the GLA-Class in India at a price of Rs 32.75 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) at an event in New Delhi, today. The GLA-Class is the Stuttgart-based carmaker’s first attempt to make its presence felt in the compact luxury SUV/crossover space. The India-spec model was unveiled at the 2014 Auto Expo.
Off late, car manufacturers across the world have begun looking at India with quite a different perspective. Most have now realised what an important automobile hub our country is - both export and import wise. In keeping with this trend Nissan has declared that it will be bringing its premium brand, Infiniti, and the GT-R sports car to India. It also plans to build a compact SUV for our market and all this is being done to strengthen the Datsun brand here.
Mercedes-Benz will launch the GLA-Class crossover for the Indian market tomorrow. It will available with two engine options as well as a special launch edition. The India-spec model was unveiled at the 2014 Auto Expo and has been spotted testing on multiple occasions in the country. It is based on the German automakers MFA platform which underpins other models like the A-Class, B-Class and the CLA-Class which will be launched in India next year.
The Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 has been spotted sans camouflage at what appears to be the Indo-Japanese automaker’s storage yard. It is the first major upgrade for the hatchback since it was launched in 2010 and appears to be a comprehensive one involving external, internal and mechanical changes.
As McLaren continues to gain presence in many global markets, the British sportscar maker has announced the launch of its first regionally tailored model aimed at the Asian market. Based on the existing 650S, this new model is called the 625C and the latter has been conceived in response to customer demand in the Asian region.
General Motors India has commenced vehicle exports to Chile. The first 140 left-hand-drive Chevrolet Beats were shipped from the Mumbai Port Trust of Maharashtra on September 25 and are expected to reach Chile in the next few weeks.
Skoda has said that it has put its Indian investments on hold due to uncertainties with regard to policy framework. The Czech automaker in an interview with ET has said that it has put its small car project on hold and will invest on facilitating existing projects.
