Luxury automaker Rolls-Royce launched the Phantom II in Mumbai on Friday. To cater exclusively to the rich and opulent (just like the company has done since its inception) the new car will brought into the country as a CBU.
The luxury marque has not made many changes to the car because as the GM emerging market Asia, Rolls-Royce, Herfried Hasenoehrl, puts it “our customers did not want anything to change in the Phantom. They just wanted it better.”
Revisions to the car include a redesigned media controller, full LED headlights with adaptive and cornering function, an improved Satnav system and cameras at various points on the vehicle for better driving and parking.
Under the hood, power will continue to derive from a 6.7 litre V12 churning out 460bhp but will now be transmitted to the wheels via a new 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox. Also the rear differential has been worked upon and this combined with the new gearbox is expected to improve fuel efficiency by 10 per cent.
A byword in luxury customisation Rolls Royce is one of the few companies to offer 44,000 external paint schemes and a very large list of wood and leather combinations for the interiors.
Prices for the Phantom II will start at a ‘modest’ Rs 4.5 crore for the standard model while the long wheelbase model will lighten your pocket by Rs 5.1 crore; this obviously is without the extra trappings.
