The brand-new and otherworldly Bugatti Chiron hypercar has been showcased at a private event in New York ahead of its official US launch which is expected to happen later this month. The car made its global debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.
The Chiron is the successor to the mighty Veyron supercar and carries an evolutionary design. It was previewed last year through the Vision GT concept car at the 2016 Frankfurt Motor Show.
The face is familiar with the horseshoe grille and slit like headlights while the side profile reveals that the car has gotten longer and even lower. This has consequently increased the wheelbase too.
However, what is new is an aerodynamic package which is very visible in the form of a new front and rear splitter. The side skirts too are more prominent and get a dab of chrome under the doors.
Gone is the iconic quad tail lamp cluster and in has come a single giant light bar that stretches the entire width of the car. It is a full LED unit and adds a futuristic touch to the overall image of the car.
While the Veyron broke the 1000bhp mark, the Chiron’s retuned W16 8.0-litre Quad turbo engine packs 1479bhp and 1599Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four-wheels via a seven-speed dual clutch AT and an AWD system.
The 0-100kmph sprint is done less than 2.5 seconds, the 0-200kmph sprint in less than 6.5 seconds and it will eventually go on to hit 300kmph within 14 seconds! This car tops out at 425kmph.
It is expected to be priced around 2.5 million dollars for the US market and seems highly possible that all the cars allotted to the country have already been sold out. Expect some limited edition in the future as a part of the production run. The French automaker is running a limited production run for the Chiron of just 500 units.
