Volvo India has announced that it will launch the V40 Cross Country by March 2013. Unveiled at 2012 Paris Motor Show, the crossover is the third variant in the recently launched V40 family and is expected to compete with cars like the BMW X1 and the Audi Q3.
The V40 Cross Country has been dubbed the successor to V70 Cross Country, which was launched more than 12 years ago. Changes to this model include contrast coloured bumpers, silver roof rails, special 19-inch alloy-wheels and a special grille.
The Swedish automaker has fitted it with a host of features like all-wheel-drive and hill descent control to enhance the V40’s off-road capability. The car also gets the same safety features that have earned its standard sibling a five-star Euro-NCAP rating.
Under the hood, The European spec V40 Cross Country has four diesel engine options in the range of 1.6-litres to 2.5-litres with varying outputs. However, for the Indian market we expect that they will bring only the 1.6-litre and the 2.0-litre engines to keep the price of the crossover below the Rs 27 lakh mark.
Volvo has been in the Indian market for a reasonable amount of time but without much success. This it seems is the right time for it to introduce the Cross Country as the crossover market in India is on the rise.
