The new Chevrolet Captiva
- GM has launched a new variant of the Chevrolet Captiva. The top-spec variant sports a 2.2-litre engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and retails for Rs 24.59 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi.
- Tata Motors has launched a short film competition for its Nano. Ideas for a 5 minute short film that feature the car (and not necessarily revolve around it) have to be submitted to the company by July 2 and the 12 best ideas will have films made around them. The two most popular videos on youtube will get a movie-making kit worth Rs 75,000 and a camera worth Rs 25,000.
- The 'Need For Speed' game will turn into a movie, and is scheduled to release in 2014. Dreamworks has been put in the driver's seat for the film. We aren't sure how different it will turn out from the Fast and Furious series, but we do like the fact that you, the consumer, can suggest cars for the film by posting on Electronic Arts' Facebook page.
- Ford has designed what it calls "Traffic Jam Assist" that will take over from the driver during traffic jams and hand control back to the driver once the vehicle reaches 50kmph. It will accelerate, brake and steer all by itself, and even avoid a collision if another car cuts it off.
- Lamborghini is rumoured to be working on a four-seat version of the Aventador supercar. It already has a four-door concept in the Estoque, but with two small suicide doors (like the Mazda RX-8) and a stretched wheelbase, the execution is possible. We aren't too sure about that rear-mid-engined bit, though. A better possibility is that of the series production roadster debuting next January at the Detroit Auto Show. September's Paris Motor Show is tipped to show off the next Gallardo facelift, with cues from the current design language.
