Mahindra owned SsanYong’s compact SUV, the Tivoli, has been displayed at the 2016 Auto Expo. It will be launched in the Indian market this year.
The SUV is named after the Italian town of Tivoli and is built on a heavy investment of 350 billion won or 320 million dollars. It is based on the X100 platform and measures 4,195mm in length, 1,795mm in width, 1,590mm in height and rides on a 2,600mm wheelbase. The manufacturer has used 71.4 per cent of high-strength steel in its construction, which speaks of the high safety standards in addition to the seven airbags and electronic stability control that comes with the Tivoli’s standard safety package.
The impressive styling with a butch stance features LED daytime running lights, 16- to 18-inch alloy wheels and a sunroof. All of this combined with front and rear parking sensors, auto headlights and wipers, smart key entry, dual-zone climate control and a 7.0-inch infotainment system, make for an impressive package for the Indian market as well.
Mahindra has not officially announced the powertrain options for the Indian market yet. Globally, the Tivoli is offered in petrol as well as diesel options. While the 1.6-litre petrol mill produces 125bhp of power and 157Nm of torque, the 1.6-litre diesel unit churns out 113bhp and 300Nm, almost double the petrol trim's torque. The power is sent to the front wheels and the transmission options include a six-speed manual or an automatic gearbox.
The SsangYong Tivoli is enjoying good demand in the European markets thanks to its design, size, price and build quality. The good turnaround in sales overseas has helped the carmaker achieve a new landmark. In fact, the Tivoli is a new milestone in the growing partnership between Mahindra and SsangYong.
