Mercedes-Benz India has launched their flagship sportscar – the AMG GT S – in India at Rs 2.4 crore (ex-showroom Delhi). The two-seater grand tourer coupe is a successor to the revered SLS AMG, the car known for its gullwing-like doors inspired from the 1950s Mercedes 300 SL.
The AMG GT S continues the legacy of the long hood, a slim windscreen and a sloping roofline. While it gets the wide wheel arches, it misses out on the gullwing doors. The interiors are plush with the race-car like bucket seats and leather upholstery. Unlike Porsches, where you have to add features for cash, the AMG GT S comes with dual-zone air conditioning, auto-dimming mirrors, a touch-navigated infotainment system with GPS navigation as standard along with a 350-litre boot - enough for two.
The front-mid engine rear-wheel drive AMG GT S is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine that develops 503hp of power at 6250rpm and 650Nm of torque from 1750rpm. Mated to the 7-speed dual clutch AMG Speedshift DCT transmission, the GT S propels to 100kmph in just over 3 seconds, which is quick by any standards. The electronic stability program is equipped with traction control, anti-skid control, an electronically controlled mechanical limited-slip differential along with a host of electronics to keep you safe while having some fun too.
The two-door coupe comes in seven colour options including the yellow, red and silver hues. It will be imported to India as CBU and will be available through all the Mercedes AMG Performance Centres. In India, the Mercedes-AMG GT S will compete with the Jaguar F-Type, the Porsche 911 and the Maserati GT.
