Toyota has officially taken the wraps off its new generation Innova MPV. In essence, the third generation for the vehicle, this new car gets a major cosmetic update both internally and externally as well as a new engine in the diesel lineup. We give you a glimpse of the car before its 2016 Auto Expo reveal.

The face of the new Innova now gets the large Toyota grille and big, sweptback double barrel headlights with LED inserts. One of the new design elements visible on the fascia are two muscular flanks running parallel to the headlamps.

The side profile remains the same as the outgoing model but has many new elements. There is a soft flare on the wheel arches while the ORVMs get integrated indicators. The wheel design is new while the third row window is now larger.

The rear looks cluttered thanks to the oversized bumper which towers over everything else. The tail lamps are now horizontal as compared to the earlier christmas tree design. They have a tear drop element which runs parallel to the top edge of the bumper.

Moving into the cabin we can see a new dashboard, steering and instrument cluster which have all been taken from the Hilux pickup truck. The fabrics for the seats too have been revised while Toyota has also fitted height adjustment for the front passenger.

Comfort features include AC vents for both rows, touchscreen infotainment system, steering mounted audio controls, keyless entry and LED headlamps. We expect these to be standard on the top-of-the-line diesel and petrol models.

On the engine and gearbox front, Toyota will be offering the Innova with a 2.4-litre four-pot diesel as well as a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol. Gearbox options include a five-speed manual and six-speed AT. The diesel engine produces 149bhp/359Nm while the petrol pumps 139bhp/183Nm of torque.

Safety features include six airbags, ABS with EBD as well as stability control programme and hill start assist. The new Innova will debut for the Indonesian market on November 23 while its Indian launch is likely to happen by the middle of next year.

When launched, the Innova will compete with the Chevrolet Spin, Renault Lodgy as well as the Mahindra XUV500 in the higher spec models. We expect that this new Innova will be priced marginally higher than the outgoing model.
