Tesla, as we have seen, is best known for making the insanely quick Model S. The latter is a pure electric full-size luxury sedan that can outrun several purpose-built supercars when it comes to straight line performance. And now, the California-based firm has come up with a similar creation albeit in a crossover package in the form of the all-new Model X.
The all-wheel-drive Model X is powered by Tesla's proven electric powertrain which allows it to accelerate from 0-100kmph in just 3.2 seconds and hit a top speed of 250kmph, all the while producing zero emissions.
Designed as an electric vehicle from the ground up, the Model X is claimed to be among the safest cars on the road. Without a big engine under the hood, the crossover has a large crumple zone to absorb the energy of a high-speed impact.
The design highlight, undoubtedly, are the Falcon Wing (gullwing-like doors) that allow easy access to second and third-row seats. Furthermore, Tesla says the doors open and close automatically as the driver approaches.
At 0.24, the Model X has the lowest drag coefficient of any SUV in production. The vehicle comes standard with an active spoiler that automatically adjusts to three different positions for maximum visibility and efficiency. Tesla is claiming a 400km driving range on a single charge for the Model X and now that it’s being officially shown, the brand has revealed that it is working on the vehicle’s first deliveries that will begin late next year.
