Following their online debut earlier this month, the convertible versions of the Mercedes AMG GT have arrived at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. Dubbed AMG GT Roadster and GTC Roadster, these are the most powerful Roadster models from Mercedes thanks to a lot of technical refinements of the hardcore AMG GT R.
Under the long hood of these cars sits Merc’s latest V8 biturbo engine. The base AMG GT produces 476bhp while the more powerful GT C brings in 557bhp to the table. Both vehicles use weight-optimised fabric soft tops which open and close in around 11 seconds at speeds of up to 50kmph. The three-layered fabric soft top is supported by a magnesium/steel/aluminium structure, which helps to keep the centre of gravity low. Additional rollover protection is courtesy of an integrated aluminium cross-member with rollover bars.
At 557bhp, the peak output is 47bhp above that of the AMG GT S and 28bhp below the AMG GT R. A sprint from 0-100kmph is dealt with in 3.7 seconds and the top speed is rated at 316kmph. The base AMG GT Roadster, meanwhile, has 476bhp and 630Nm of torque and can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 4 seconds and hit a top speed of 302kmph. These Roadster versions include a lot of clever tech from the GTR. This includes active rear axle steering and the electronically controlled rear axle locking differential. The cars also get AMG Ride Control sport suspension.
In terms of pricing, we expect the base GT Roadster to cost around £100,000 (Rs 86.48 lakh) whereas the more powerful GT C will go for a little more premium. With these two convertible versions, the Mercedes-AMG GT family has now increased to a five model line-up.
