2015 Ford EcoSport to go sale in the UK in October

Ford will launch the updated EcoSport for the UK market in October this year. The new model gets some cosmetic changes, additional features and some mechanical upgrades.

In terms of cosmetic makeover, the EcoSport will now sport a sleek look instead of the earlier rugged one. The most evident change is seen at the back with the absence of the boot-mounted spare wheel. The car gets a tyre mobility kit instead. The tailgate bears the registration plate now, which was earlier in the bumper. Apart from the revised rear end, the vehicle features new alloy wheels with a different pattern.

The cabin of the EcoSport has been updated with new leather trim and some chrome detailing. The interior will get heated windscreen and mirrors with the option of heated front seats and extra ventilation for rear passengers.

Ford has improved the power delivery of the 1.5-litre TDCi diesel engine, which now produces 94bhp of power and a better fuel efficiency. The 1.0-litre EcoBoost and 1.5-litre Ti-VCT petrol powerplants are the same and there are no changes to the transmission as well. However, Ford says, they have decreased the car's ride height by 10mm for improving handling. They have also worked on its springs, dampers, ESC and steering systems for better ride comfort.

This upcoming new model will be produced at Ford's facility in Chennai in India and will arrive at the UK dealerships in October this year. The possibility of launching this model for the Indian market seems very low as the Indian consumers like the look of the current EcoSport with the tailgate mounted spare wheel. In fact, it is a USP of the compact SUV.
