Suzuki UK introduces Celerio with AMT gearbox and new 1-litre engine

Suzuki’s latest global small car, the Celerio, went on sale in the UK in February and since then, more than 2,000 units have been sold in the region. The Japanese brand has now introduced two new derivatives to the range featuring a 1-litre Dualjet engine and the automated manual (AMT) gearbox.

According to Suzuki, this new 1-litre Dualjet engine emits 84g/km of CO2 and attains a fuel efficiency of 78.4mpg (27.7 kmpl), making it the most fuel efficient new car on sale for less than £10,000 (Rs 9.97 lakh). The 1-litre unit features a high compression ratio and twin fuel injectors. To extract as much efficiency as possible, the Celerio will be fitted with a stop-start system that will enable the vehicle to achieve a claimed figure of 27.7kmpl.

Also now on sale is the automated manual gearbox technology which features a shift control actuator positioned at the top of the transmission to operate the gearshift and clutch automatically.

The Celerio, as we know, is also sold in India by Maruti Suzuki. But unlike the India-spec version, the Euro-spec Celerio is quite feature rich and gets a host of safety equipment including six airbags (driver, passenger, side and curtain), ABS and ESP.

The Celerio currently competes against other small cars available in the UK. The list includes the Hyundai i10, Kia Picanto, Toyota Aygo and the Volkswagen Up!
