Tata Motors has announced that the GenX Nano will be launched in India on May 19. The GenX Nano will replace the Twist variants and has been comprehensively updated to help it put up a stronger fight against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 and the Hyundai Eon.
Aesthetically, the GenX Nano gets a new bigger smiling grille at the front, which co-exists with the updated blacked-out headlamps and a redesigned bonnet. One of the biggest updates on the exterior is the new openable rear hatch, which significantly bumps up the Nano’s usability. A majority of the interior of the GenX Nano is similar to the current car, though it does get some additional functionality to bring it up to date with the competition. The biggest change in the top-end variant is a new chrome-finished AMT gear stick beneath the centre console, which replaces the traditional four-speeder manual stick.
The GenX Nano will be available in four variants – XE, XM, XT and the top-end XTA with an ‘Easy Shift’ gearbox. The GenX Nano continues to be powered by the 624cc engine two-cylinder engine, from the current model, which produces 37bhp and 51Nm of torque. While the three base models will continue with the four-speed gearbox, the XTA model comes mated to the Magneti Marelli-sourced Easy Shift transmission.
The GenX Nano will be produced at Tata’s manufacturing plant in Sanand, Gujarat. Owing to the updates and new transmission, we can expect GenX Nano variants to be priced slightly higher than the current Nano Twist range.
